The U needs a real good student package.

They had a good one last year. I'm sure they'll be competitive again.

I was on the student trip last year and it was a blast. The U of M put together a $200 package that included bus transport, two nights hotel, a bowl game ticket, AND a student season ticket for this year.

Only downside last year was that the trip left around 3 PM on Christmas Day. Even so, three busses were plum full and around 150 students went on the trip.

This year I would expect a similar package, perhaps closer to $300 total, and I think 300-500 students will sign up.

I will post a link or summary as soon as information is released.

The U should reward student season ticket holders with a reasonable trip at a reasonable price. U students get a bad rap in the media because lazy reporters have their own bias. If Norwood want to show that MN travels well, his department should make sure as many students who can attend would be able to for a reasonable cost.

Anyone heard anything about any package existing? All I hear is crickets.

When they went to the Orange Bowl, Northern Illinois filled 26 Buses with Students
How many can we fill?

I called the ticket office today to inquire about a student package and they said they have something in the works. Like Gopher07 mentioned above, last year they announced the package on December 11 - which was the Wednesday following the bowl announcement.

And in terms of student turn out, assuming the price is reasonable I think we should be able to fill 5 - 10 buses.

That's great news to hear. Hope lots of students decide to go. If I was still in college (long time ago), nothing would beat a January trip to Florida for a big bowl game, a Gopher VICTORY, some sun, beer/liquor and a bunch of co-eds of the opposite sex running around. :D

They should open up the student package to non-students if they can actually put something together for under 400

This is the coolest thing I've heard all day. What a blast that must have been, especially for students who really can't be expecting that opportunity!! Was really pulling for the huskies in that game.

Would love for our students to get a chance at this.

What is the delay in getting this going? Getting bus charters isn't rocket science...although the U does have some rocket scientists if they need them...so lets get this done.

Getting sponsorships and donations (in the works). The more money they can bring in, the lower the cost will be for the students who sign up.

That's the exact package I need! Great job Gopher Athletic Dept! Love that they threw in 2015 season tickets also. Keep building that fan base. If I end up not going, as it appears, I'll definitely be donating some tickets for students.

They did the season ticket thing last year as well. Glad to see it carried over. $299 is a lot for a casual student fan but we will hopefully sell a lot of tickets anyhow

Looks like I'll be hopping on. The price is $100 more than it was last year, but I'm wondering if the price of student season tickets will increase next year as well, making this pretty comparably priced.

It's 400 miles further (800 miles roundtrip) and in a tourist destination, as opposed to Houston.

Definitely, although last year the bus didn't go directly there and made a few side trips at various stadiums along the way which brought the time closer to 25 hours. It'll be interesting to see if they do that again, as the general vibe seemed to be that most of us just wanted to get there rather than see the outside of a stadium at 2 in the morning and this drive is a few hours longer without the side trips.

They should open up this deal to the general public (minus the season ticket)

Great deal for students! I would think that most students at the U who wanted to go will be able to come up with that money no problem. I know if my kids were students at The U, I would shell out $300 so they can go to the bowl game AND have a season ticket for the next season.

Something similar would be awesome, although it likely wouldn't come from the U. I read in another thread that Iowa sent like 24 buses to the Orange Bowl back in the day. Wonder who put that together...and why nobody associated with MN hasn't.

Agreed. This is an awesome deal! My only fear is they'll limit this to one or two buses. Would love to see tons and tons of students.

$299 a lot? Tuition is a lot, $299 is two books. Not to diminish anyone's personal finances, just making a comparison.

In many cases, $299 will buy you half a book from the U Bookstore.

On the bright side, you can sell that book back at the end of the semester and recoup at least like 5 bucks.

$299 is a good deal for ANYONE for a couple day trip to Orlando, let alone a free football game, LET ALONE getting to see an exciting Gophers team all of 2015
