The rules regarding storming the field and/or court

I will admit that when at the Nebraska game, I was kind of like "why are we storming the field on a team we've beaten 6 times in a row?"

Then my 10 year old couldn't contain his excitement, wanted to run on, we did, and he got a selfie with Drake Lindsey.

Yeah, I'm good with it whenever.

Court / Field Stroming Rules:

1) If your team is at home and unranked, you can strom the field, or court, if the opponenet is in the Top 10.
2) If your team is ranked lower than 15 and you beat the opponent, they must be in the Top 3 to strom the court/field.
3) If your team is ranked in the top 15, you are not allowed to storm the court or field.

These are awful tame. More of a gradual wave than a storming. It's fine as long as you leave the other team alone. There was one earlier this year when Florida State got stormed by Virginia (or VA Tech) and there were still a couple of FSU guys on the ground after the last play with fans all around them.

The last two were more of joining the team on the field to celebrate than storming the field. As long as there aren't safety concerns, I don't see the issue with it. It's a fun experience for the fans and players and it gives anyone not interested in joining a head start on going home.

Last night was warranted given the very low % chance they had going in and it's still Indiana.

The Wisconsin football game wasn't much of a storm, more a bunch of kids wanted pictures with the Axe.

UVa stormed the field when they beat Florida State this year. Apparently the ACC has very strict rules and fined them $40K. When they beat Virginia Tech on Friday, the official student section didn't move but a bunch just went over and came down through a different area. I guess they can't prove it was students so maybe they will get away with it.

I have come around to this opinion. Lots of schools have little quirks. Mississippi State clangs cowbells. Boise State has a blue field. Rushing the field on a regular basis (instead of remarkable situations) could be "our thing."

I sort of resisted the idea at first, cringing when the students rushed the field to celebrate a win over a team we have beaten 6 times in a row. But, I have noticed how the students wait around in much larger numbers when there is a field rush in the air.

Maxy brings up a great point though. Safety needs to be a factor. I saw another social media video of a mom in the hospital getting a cast on her broken leg after jumping over the wall for last Saturday's field rush. Somebody is eventually going to get hurt badly. I've done my last field rush but I found that it could be done safely by turning my back to the field and letting myself down belly-to-the-wall. But most people haven't done it enough to realize that and they face the field when they jump down and it is a loooooong way. There have been medical needs every time.

If there are "rules" around when it can be done (heck, even publish it in advance "hey gopher fans, we'd like to meet you on the field in the event of a win this saturday to celebrate" and it could be set up more safely for field rush games - I officially give up and will quit sighing when a field rush occurs after a win over not-so-epic opponent.
I like this idea but there is just no way that the University can legally endorse it by "permitting" fans to rush the field. They'd be opening themselves up to a lot of liability issues if something really bad happened. Right now they can legally say "Hey, we don't allow it and it's technically trespassing. We have a security firm to deal with that." Security firm can say "There were just too many people to stop them all so our focus was on maintaining order"
