The reason you take your time to find a coach, is why Texas Tech only took 1 week!

I appreciate the feedback and thought, but to play the race card is a bit strong and unsubstantiated. If you look back, the fans at KY had been disenchanted with Tubby for a number of years, and the writing on the wall was there for Tubby- that he needed to perform better or he would have been fired. He bailed before they had that honor. Secondly, if their "boosters" and fans and admin were so racist, they would not have hired Tubby in the first place nor had any blacks on the team. A lot has changed since Adolph Rupp roamed the court.

There was plenty of reason for Kentucky fans wanting Tubby gone. If you choose to believe that his race never entered into those reasons, none of my business why, just interesting that you'd think it never mattered. None of that changes the bull-bleep contention that Tubby' record was mediocre right after Pittino left.

Good Point. We are basing much of this off speculation off Rumors. Im sure he is putting out feelers but as to how many offers he has thrown out their, Im not sure? Maybe one to flip and/or Shaka but who knows.

He offered Shaka, Hoiberg, and Flip. All said no. These were not "feelers" but offers. I'm sure he will find a good coach, but to say Teague is just taking his time to make the right decision is not correct. My point was that he already had guys he wanted and decided to pursue them, and they said no. If they had said yes, the search would be over and we wouldn't be sitting here talking about "chilling out because the search is only 7 days old." Again, it's not the length of time that is concerning, it is the lack of targets now that the prime targets have said no. And it is concerning when several coaches say no, particularly an alum that bleeds maroon and gold.

Why can't it be both ways...Tubby was great an KY and he wasn't with us? People get old, lose passion....and recruiting at the U is harder than at KY. Maybe, just maybe, Tubby worked just as hard here as he did at KY but because of different circumstances he wasn't as successful here. What we need is a coach that will work harder here to overcome the challenges. A coach that can win with lessor players. A coach that will work to sell the program, raise money and win.

I don't hate Tubby and I was thrilled when we got him...but we didn't get the Tulsa Tubby, we got the post KY Tubby...we need a Tulsa Tubby for our program to move up.

i agree but i would be curious if they said no to the "job" or they said no to the "offer"

Iceland....Why was it so easy for MN to lure Tubby away from KY? Last time I checked KY was the best job in the country, and do you think for a minute KY would have just let him walk because they were nice. They wanted him gone, and we did KY a favor and they laughed as we did, just as we laugh at Texas Tech, except we had to buy Tubby out. Tubby would have been fired at KY, they have higher expectations then we do at MN, which it part of our losing tradition here. If it were not for Lucia's two titles years ago, he would be fired too, as we are to hockey what KY is to basketball. We need to start holding our other sports to the same standards we hold our hockey program...

Dwight sounds like a Southern name to me. Are you from KY?

Does it honestly matter? It's almost worse to say no to the "job" because that means no matter what you offer me I'm not going there...

FOT was banned for being a dbag and writing the same crap on every post...hopefully you are next.

Do you really think that he should be banned because he does not say what you like? I would ban Tiny or Jamalo before I ban The SCOUT. More and more The SCOUTs will be here in a few days, months and years. These guys have no agenda. They just don't think that that firing was right.

i would be interested to know what the perception is of the "job"

maybe it would give the fanbase some perspective on what alums/fans/admin can all do to make it better. just a thought, not sure if anything can be done?

If they have no agenda, then they are at a minimum bigger fans of Tubby than of the program. Tubby played us all for the last 2-3 years that he was here. Most people on the board have come around to the realization that Tubby wasn't the right go, but the handful who haven't like yourself either have your blinders on, an agenda or don't want the program to or don't believe the program can succeed.

Plus, this is the same guy who had his agent out there campaigning for everyone open BCS jobs ever since he set foot here, but I'm sure that is fine in your eyes.

The facts wont let it be both ways. He was getting ran out of town in KY, plain and simple . I liked the Tubby hire at the time as well, I thought it was worth a shot. It became apparent after a few season here under Tubby we were seeing the same things the KY fans were complaining about, which was a mediocre program with players who did not progress and mediocre recruiting. I will grant you this point: Mediocre in KY is different then here, but it should not be, and that is what Teague is trying to remedy by trying to find a long-term great coach who can guild a great team...Our goal should not be ok but it should be great, and that starts with a coach who believes that after the right AD. Teague seems to want to get over the drought we have been in.

People like you would never be a leader. When you don't like an administration, it is ok to raise your voice but try to come up with a solution. Those who do not agree with your posts including myself have said that Tubby did make mistakes. We also had solutions. People like you with an agenda post negative posts because you don't like a person or situation. Until you come up with a solution, I will not agree with any of your posts. It is unhealthy to stay this mad. Tubby has moved on and so should we.

Not clear on your point, the solution (as implemented by Teague) was to part ways.

What were your proposed solutions, and would have Tubby agreed to them?

Why was KY running Tubby out of town then? Why did KY view his tenure differently then you? They should know, they are closer to the program then you were.

They are also all escapees from the Kentucky Asylum for the Inbred Survivors who could pass the 3rd grade standards exam.

I'm from Scraton PA and Im in the paper business

I googled you, Dwight, and found that you made your fortune recycling used toilet paper. You have a good job that will never end. :)

Think about that when you use tan/brown paper bags. They are also recyclable.

Take your time Teague...Slow Down, find the right guy!

You dont want to be like Texas Tech and rush into things and hire another bad basketball coach, like they just did with Tubby!

Do your diligence, it will pay off.

Easy up Gopher Nation, lets make the right decision instead of the quick decision. Many good basketball coaches are out there!

What a GREAT concept for our new norwood to follow. Just kind of look around...don't really make any offeres to anyone (OR...at least don't admit that your are begging EVERY tom, dick and harry in the v-7 family to PLEASE save your life and take this job...) Because, if you are an apologist for our new norwood and the bang-up job he has done here since day one, it is MUCH better to question whether he OFFERED an offer to all the coaches who have NOT become the next coach of the University of Minnesota that he has wanted to talk to.

How could he EVER be turned down if he has NEVER offered? That means he is still undefeated!

I'm starting to agree that the LONGER our new norwood takes to hire a coach, the shorter period of time that fans, boosters and supporters can complain about who he did hire. I'm starting to think that he can save some money over the summer months if he just hires somebody next fall! Maybe that is his BEST bet for the right way to handle this.

Its not about winning and losing with NT, its about getting a wining basketball program.

Answer me this simple question: Why the rush? Why does it need to be done yesterday? So what if it takes another week or two? Most schools take weeks to find head coaches.

NT might have offered the job to everyone in the sweet 16 for all I know, but we don't really know do we? Without question some of it is posturing and NT must keep silent on it, thus he is at a huge disadvantage within the battle of the Press. Flip and Hoiberg can have their agents give the narrative and NT must be silent. Just keep this in mind as the many press speculators probably don't know what was offered to who either.

Lets pick the right guy instead of the quickest guy...

2.5 Million free money. How do you like that?

And how would that 2.5MM have been spent more effectively? I like Teague's solution...part ways with a defunct coach and move forward.

Do you think Tubby would have allowed us to use that 2.5MM to buy some top notch assistant coaches who understood offenses? Maybe pay some of Saul Smiths bar tab? Tubby was stuck in his ways and obviously could not learn his offensive scheme was horrible, and his substitution patterns were as obtuse as that Louisville players right leg.

You lost all credibility with me on that ending comment. Until then, you were doing all right.

Sorry Dr. Don, that was a low blow to that poor guy on Louisville. Please come back, I need your support. It was all in fun.

on the other hand...just as it does in many aspects of athletics, quickness and speed beats the heck out of a less fleet of foot athlete. Some say recruiting is virtually everything. Or, are you saying that the first couple years are totally lost any way?If you are just going to get some assistant coach, you might as well drag your feet, because only getting a LOT of Big Ten wins is going to excite the fan base and the boosters. If you put the fan base and boosters to sleep with an assistant-type hire, it really won't matter too much. You won't get recruits for a year or two. You won't get boosters building a practice facility. You won't have fans or corporate buyers rushing to buy tickets. It might be recognized as an ok hire four or five years down the road...or...you will be buying out a contract, and looking for a new and more recognizable name to excite the fan base, boosters, practice facility donors and corporate ticket buyers any way.You and our new norwood will probably do it your way. So...take your time. Do it in September or October. I guess it really doesn't matter too much any more any way. The "thrill names" are gone. The "buzz" won't be heard through out the BARN.

Will a 3 week search instead of a 1 week search greatly impact our recruiting? I'll grant you a big name coach would, without question, but they are not willing and able to come here, plain and simple, so you take your time, find the right guy, who can build a lasting program. Guys like Mike Krzyzewski and Izzo were very low profile hires who went on to do great things. NT needs to do the same here. Winning excites the fan base...IE: Tubby was a big name hire, excited the fan base but we did not get a practice facility, nor big time recruits, and we are still stuck with a mediocre program.... Settle down gopher nation...Patience is good here.
