The reason you take your time to find a coach, is why Texas Tech only took 1 week!

Take your time Teague...Slow Down, find the right guy!

You dont want to be like Texas Tech and rush into things and hire another bad basketball coach, like they just did with Tubby!

Do your diligence, it will pay off.

Easy up Gopher Nation, lets make the right decision instead of the quick decision. Many good basketball coaches are out there!

It's not exactly like he is taking his time and waiting to make an offer...he has offered several coaches and they have all said no. It's not like the boy in high school asking every girl to the dance is taking his time to find the right girl, is he? I'd say he is just trying to find one that will say yes.

Do you have concrete evidence he has made multiple offers, or are you basing that off of rumors?

Oh, ya. Teague is just gonna find his first "yes" and offer $2 million, just to get "someone". Sorry, I don't buy your reasoning, and he has NOT offered several. Pretty difficult to compare the scenario of a prom date to a big buck coaching search. Sheesh.

Good Point. We are basing much of this off speculation off Rumors. Im sure he is putting out feelers but as to how many offers he has thrown out their, Im not sure? Maybe one to flip and/or Shaka but who knows.

Well said!

I do think he offered Shaka, Hoiberg, and Flip. Shaka and Hoiberg were not realistic. Flip turning it down is the only surprise so far. We're still far from panic mode despite the beliefs of many fans.

Yeah get a never did crap coach, rather than 2003 AP coach of the year and former NCAA Championship coach

I am willing to give NT the benefit of the doubt during this process until someone is hired, but you have to admit on the surface this is not looking good based on what is transpiring with the other coaching vacancies being filled.

2003? What year are we in now; LOL. Lute Olsen is probably still available as well

excellent points

It has been what, 7 days since Tubby was fired? Some of you guys would make a cup of coffee nervous. Take this to heart. Who ever Woody hires will put the Gophers in a lot better shape then they were under Tubby. If you think along those lines, you won't get your shorts in a bundle.

Do you always live in the distant past or are you still smarting from daddy being fired?

The Flubster won with Rick Pitino's recruits and then proceeded to bankrupt Kentucky's program until he fled to distant north. Now he's been kicked out of the Northland and has landed in an inferno called Lubbock. Let's just admit that the Flubster hasn't been stellar for 10 years and leave it at that.

Bobby Knight was a never did crap coach until Indiana.
John Wooden was unknown until UCLA.
The list goes on. But...if you wish to live in 2003 in order to feed your love of the Flubster...go ahead.

Somehow I think that the "Stay Calm, All is Well!" crowd who have been preaching patience and, logically enough, that we won't know if we've got a good hire for at least a year, maybe two will, right after the hiring, be screaming:

"See, what a great hire! We should have trusted Norwood all along!!"

Tubby is not a bad basketball coach. He is just a guy that is past his prime and should go enjoy his money in retirement. Clearly he wants to keep coaching and Texas Tech was willing to pay him.

What????? If that's how you feel, you've set some pretty high standards for Teague's first hire.

Tubby won the SEC in his fourth year at Kentucky and went to the Sweet Sixteen. The next four years we won the SEC twice, finishing 2nd the other two times. He went to the Sweet Sixteen twice and the Elite Eight during those four years. Even in his last two years when he finished 6th and 4th in the SEC we got to the Second Round of the Tourney.

If THE SCOUT lives in the distant past, a fair argument, you just re-write it? That appears to be a solid one.

And for Kentucky...what Tubby did was mediocre. Notice that you never once state that Tubby went to the Final Four or won a National Championship with his own players. The Wildcat nation wanted the Flubster booted as far as they could boot him and the Flubster landed at Minnesota. Your own words condemn Tubby as a mediocre coach at Kentucky.

Bull-beep and you know it. Their delusions don't justify your lack of knowledge. It's okay though, didn't expect you to man-up about your mistake anyway.

Perception is reality. Yes.

But, UCLA and USC were vacant before the U of M. This takes time. [See thread about how long this takes]

Iceland....Why was it so easy for MN to lure Tubby away from KY? Last time I checked KY was the best job in the country, and do you think for a minute KY would have just let him walk because they were nice. They wanted him gone, and we did KY a favor and they laughed as we did, just as we laugh at Texas Tech, except we had to buy Tubby out. Tubby would have been fired at KY, they have higher expectations then we do at MN, which it part of our losing tradition here. If it were not for Lucia's two titles years ago, he would be fired too, as we are to hockey what KY is to basketball. We need to start holding our other sports to the same standards we hold our hockey program...

For the sake of reality, it should be pointed out that Texas Tech has been looking for a coach since September.

at kentucky tubby never missed the tourney and never once did he go to the nit and lose a game. i would say tubby had 2 average seasons at kentucky and the rest were very good. being a rational sports fan there is no way i can look at kentuckys resume with tubby there and think "average."

Why was KY running Tubby out of town then? Why did KY view his tenure differently then you? They should know, they are closer to the program then you were.

Kentucky fans think their teams should never miss a shot, let alone lose. Every team goes through dominance and then a come back to reality moment. Even North Carolina and Kansas have had down years before reloading. Kentucky will fire coach cal eventually and many others because the natives will get uneasy if they aren't natty champs every other year

Last time I looked, KY was the best team in College basketball. Do you think we could learn something from their success? They have had recent success as well, like just last year.

You need to subtract tubbys wins at Kentucky because he sucks at life

No kidding, Kentucky won a grand total of ONE title, in 1978, between 1959 and Pittino's in 1996. Tubby did it in 1998 and Callipari got his 14 years after that. And you're right talk to them and they won it about 25 times during that period!

Don't disagree with any of what you posted , though the fan "reaction" to a black coach at Rupp's Kentucky program has to be added in as well. Smith and his wife were going to head somewhere after putting-up with that for years. The rest of your post is reasonable and thought out. The contention was over whether Tubby only won when he had Pittino's players and whether his record down there was "mediocre". Here it was mediocre down there that's complete bull and anybody who can read knows that.

Why people feel the need to make up the past to justify the present always baffles me.

I appreciate the feedback and thought, but to play the race card is a bit strong and unsubstantiated. If you look back, the fans at KY had been disenchanted with Tubby for a number of years, and the writing on the wall was there for Tubby- that he needed to perform better or he would have been fired. He bailed before they had that honor. Secondly, if their "boosters" and fans and admin were so racist, they would not have hired Tubby in the first place nor had any blacks on the team. A lot has changed since Adolph Rupp roamed the court.

FOT was banned for being a dbag and writing the same crap on every post...hopefully you are next.
