The NIL Collective: Minnesota

Member institutions of the NCAA may give athletes compensation for unrelated competitive events, such as earning a certain level of G.P.A., a benefit not afforded to all students. I raise this as one of many concerns about having DTA as the appropriate vehicle for all athletic based scholarships. A G.P.A. form of compensation is a benefit not for performance on the field, but in the classroom, making it the foundation of a separate but unequal class, in this case, they would be super preferred students. Other students do not receive compensation for achieving a level of G.P.A. and may not see themselves as less deserving of this benefit than athletes. A separate fund should be established for this type of benefit for any student who achieves a certain G.P.A., not just athletes.
