Even after the Dasher announcement was made, 7 out of 13 MTSU fans (I discounted predictions by Gopher fans) are still predicting a Blue Raider victory on Thursday:

I guess I'm not really faulting them - I have Maroon & Gold colored glasses and have predicted some Gophers victories in the past despite the odds.

Before Dasher's injury, I thought the Gophers had a 60% chance of winning (would have said 85%+ at home). Now I put this game 2nd to South Dakota in terms of my confidence in a victory.

I will note that one MTSU fan predicted a 50-10 Minnesota victory (on the basis of a dream he had). I believe in dreams! :cool02:

Considering the adjustment for the "homer effect", and the fact that they are predicting a close game, I'd say they are well aware that without their star QB we have a big edge. Many stated that our D-line is equal to or bigger than their O-line. Add a rookie QB, and that doesn't suggest they score a whole lot.

Gophers 27-13

Most Gopherholers are predicting a Minnesota win. Surprising how fans expect their team to win.

I could see the points made about homerism, but how many will be predicting a victory versus Ohio State in October? Homerism can only overcome so much rationality.

A Sun Belt team losing their starting QB/Star Player 1 week before kickoff? If they were playing Indiana or Colorado or NC State, etc. I would still be predicting an MTSU loss under the circumstances. So is my confidence in a W homerism?

On the other hand, if you asked them who their peers would be, I would imagine hearing names like Mississippi State, East Carolina, etc. Now if you were to ask an MTSU fan about the outcome of Minnesota versus East Carolina in a game in which ECU's QB/star was missing, would they say ECU? If so, I can understand their lack of respect for the Gophers, otherwise it is pure Homerism.

I don't blame them for predicting a win. Minnesota has been anything but impressive these last three years. 1, 6, and 7 wins these last three years does not strike fear into any team. Until we prove that we can win big games or have a big season, we deserve to have low expectations by opposing fans.

I hope not all statistical data compiled for studies is taken from a sample size of 13.

Not too many Raider fans are confident now that Dasher will be out. We just don't know what to expect from the new QB. I said 28-17 a while back. I have to change my prediction to 24-20. But I can still see Minnesota winning this one too. I think it will still be a good game.

Hey, Blue..

you should give lessons to the Badger and Hawkeye fans on how to go on another team's board without talking crap. I am glad you have contributed your team's perspective....quite enjoyable.

I predict the team that scores the most points will win. Yes their team will be all fired up because the all world QB is gone and they want a victory for the kid but, after months of being told your no good and expect to finish last, our lads will have a deeper reason to prove themselves. After a few glorious minutes of dominance by MTSU, reality will prevail. Adam Weber will simply shred their defense. Our defense will be better than you think.

I hope your right Gopher Jay but right now I have my doubts. I think our defense this year will really struggle. There is a chance that we will have 11 new starters playing on defense. I know the intial response is our defense wasn't that good last year. Last year our defense was a lot better then people gave them credit for. They were on the field the whole football game. I don't see this defense being so talented that they will be good starting out the season.

I think the offense will be vastly improve, but not so great that it makes up for our bad defense.

I hope that I'm dead wrong but I see us winning 6 games at the very most. 4 is probably more realistic.

lets all step back a moment and take in the fact that we actually have to have this debate.

thats just sad for big ten team.

Gophers 34, MTSU 10.

Weber and our running game will have a monster day. The defense/special teams will score.

Do you guys know anything about our defense? Really? 243 returning "games played". Our front 7 has more experience in "games played" in 2009 than any other team in the Big Ten for 2010.

It's OK to feel good about the Gophers this year. Really.

Gophers are going to hog the ball a lot and gain 400+ yARDS ON THE GROUND

Debate there is no debate we are going to pound these chodes into the ground. Gophers 42 MTSU 7. Who care's what those MTSU dimwits think, there perception is we stink because of what the media is promoting nationally. They expect to win, good for them, just makes the beatdown the Gophers will unleash sweeter.
Remember how BGSU was going to dominate to the Gophers and all of that woe is me before that game. This time will be no different, these Gophers are a lot better than what the average fans think. There is a reason there is so much quiet confidence from the coaches, they have already caught glimpses of how good this Gophers team can be.

I wouldn't put too much into 13 of their fans...with Dasher out, we went from 4.5 point dogs to 3 point favorites on Sportsbook.

It's sad because these so-called Gopher fans have ALLOWED THEMSELVES (yes, it is SELF-inflicted) to become losers with a loser mentality.

There is a VAST difference between a Gopher "fan" and a Gopher supporter. A fan is a bandwagon jumper with little tangible or valuable knowledge or opinion--big highs, big lows. A supporter looks at ALL the parts of the puzzle and makes informed, analytical criticism--big highs, little lows.

It is a different time, a different day, and a different type of team than we have had in 30+ years.

Stop the self-abuse and use your head...no the other one.

The only debate in my mind is do we win by two or three touchdowns.

they did look good in their bowl game last year. that being said, we should get the W

We have no proof that Brew can coach a lick at this point. They have every right to think they could beat a bottom 1/3 division B10 team under Brew's watch. That said, we win this game by under 3 points. B10 teams should beat these teams no matter how good they are supposed to be in conference.

(BTW, I believe we start the B10 season at 3-1)

Then things really get interesting.

I have a hard time believing we'll blow out MTSU. We have not shown the ability to blow out a team under Brewster's tenure thus far. I think it happens this season against Northern Illinois and South Dakota. I can't be as confident against a team that went 10-3 last year, even with their stud player suspended. At this point, I see it as a game where we are in control for most of the game, it stays close for a half, and we build a 10-15 point lead by the end. If Dasher was in, I think we win the game by 7 or less.

I believe our offense will move the ball. If we avoid turnovers, and our defense doesn't give up the big play, we should be in good shape. Of course, I could say that for every game, but believe it to be particularly true in this contest.

Minnesota's veteran offensive line will be the difference in this game. MTSU returns 3 defensive line starters but battled injuries in the spring and have struggled to stop the run over the last 3 seasons. Assuming Horton wants to establish the running game, Minny's o-line should be able to create some large running lanes. If you couple Minnesota's superiority in the trenches with the loss of Dwight Dasher at QB, Minnesota becomes an obvious favorite in my mind. This may not be a perfect analogy but I am reminded of the BGSU game in 2008 where Minnesota was supposed to lose and ultimately Adam Weber threw 3 tds and 233 yards coupled with 165 running yards from various RBs. Minnesota cruised in the 4th quarter because of their physical preeminence in the trenches and depth. Prediction: Minnesota 27 MTSU 14.

How much do we have to beat them by before no one can say "Sure, but if Dasher was there..."? I don't recall any one giving us credit when we've had players injured or suspended. I think we were going to win even if Dasher had played. So many MTSU fans were counting on the heat being unbearable, not realizing it can get warm here too. Plus there's the crowing over beating Maryland and Southern Miss as if they were epic victories. I've seem some MTSU fans who insisted that the 2009 Maryland team, which was rated #97 by Sagarin was a much better them than the 2010 Gophers. Go ahead and think that. I do expect the MTSU team will be taking the game more seriously than some of the MTSU fans.

I don't know how closely you've followed college football in the last ~10 years, but just being from a 'name' conference doesn't win games anymore. Michigan was beat by App St, Cal Poly would've beat Wisconsin if they had a servicable high school kicker, Northern Iowa came within a blocked field goal of beating a BCS bowl winning Iowa team. There is this crazy team that plays on blue turf that has done well recently, Houston knocked off I believe a top 10 OK State team last year, and on and on and on. The times they are a changin.

17-14 MTSU

So Dwight Dasher is NOT playing, and STILL the forum's resident Badger fan thinks the Gophers are going to lose to MTSU. On top of that you still have that out of context quote of mine in your sig.

When are you just gonna leave? Troll.

He won't leave...that is a sad statement on his life. But, what do you expect? I imagine that he has nothing else for which to live.

After the game we are all going to look back and laugh that this was even debated. Gophers win 38-13
