The Gazette: Texas Bowl tickets available for $4 on Stub Hub

To be fair, many of those cheap seats don't even exist in some of the other bowl games. The Potato Bowl seats about 35K less than in Houston.
You can currently get tickets in the "Club II" section for $7. They are $90 on Gophersports. There are many other seats in the lower bowl selling at $5 or less.

I mean, I agree that if you cut out 30k of the cheapest seats that number would rise, but still...

The Texas Bowl has broken the buck on Stubhub. Tickets starting at 75 cents and plunging.

Well, at this rate it looks like I'm going to have a suite for the game and only pay around $50 for it. Y'all stop by and have a drink with me.

Sad.

It would be nice if the new Vikings stadium would host a bowl. I'd pay $20 to go see a couple teams from different conferences.

If I were able to make the trip down, I would be all about this. =/

I don't think it is a hug surprise though. Many of the tickets were essentially forced on people who don't give a rip about the game. Look at the attendance of an NFL pre-season game. It's kinda the same thing in that season ticket holders are forced to purchase those tickets. Now imagine instead of it being the Vikings playing, it was Carolina vs. Oakland in the metrodome.

It sucks, but when sit back and think about, it is not that surprising.

Absolutely part of the reason, but why then aren't the values of the other bowls falling drastically as well? Some of them are in NFL stadiums (such as those I highlighted in my previous post) and they're all able to get at least $30.

This situation makes it tough to swallow buying tix through the U of M tix office. I bought my tix through the U of M tix office in effort to be a good fan by boosting our numbers. I must admit it is tempting to cancel my order and get five tix for the price of one-half of one.

If you've done that research how many of those NFL Stadiums have their College Bowl Fame a part of their Season Ticket Package or feature two teams, the closest of which is 1200 miles away?

Just seems like a tsunami of bad circumstances versus "hey we got to a Bowl Game."

Still looking at buying 2 tickets for game. Want the U to get credit but sure would like to save some money.

Bought mine through the ticket office to help the school, even though I'm sure I could get lower prices here locally. But I do this with hopes that my donations and ticket purchases will let me buy Rose Bowl tickets when that day comes. ;)

Probably for all kinds of reasons. For one, the bowls you mentioned are much more prestigious than the Texas Bowl. Secondly, each of those four bowl game features two teams who had better seasons and/or are more popular/well known programs than MN and Syracuse (which equals more interest from impartial fans in the area).

The Gator and Capital One Bowls have a team playing in it that isn't that far away.

Add in the fact that any of the locals who went to the game last year may not be too interested in seeing a same team they saw last year, it's not that surprising in my opinion. Maybe a little surprised the prices are that low but that's about it in my opinion.

P.S. Maybe the people who run the bowl game suck at selling tickets and getting sponsorship from local businesses. I have to imagine that is a good part of ticket sales in most bowls.

Just think of the ticket prices when the Vikings new stadium gets a bowl game...

With the new way bowls are distributed this could be really easy, in fact. I'd gladly go to a bowl in Minneapolis featuring the Gophers, as I'm sure would many Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa fans.

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than taking a vacation in Houston.

Hitchhike to Texas
Purchase 75 cent ticket
Crash on Aggie 's couch
???
Profit

This is not a surprise. The Gophers could not sell out the Syracuse game at TCF in 2012. And they had $10 ticket specials on top of 25,000 season ticket holders that were required to buy tickets. The Texas Bowl should close off the Upper decks and at least give the appearance of a half full stadium.

The attendance for the 2012 game was: ATTENDANCE: 50,805. That's capacity and pretty sure that 25,805 of them didn't get in there for $10 a ticket. Otherwise, please continue.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have sold <2,500 Gator Bowl tickets. This will be their worst bowl attendance ever.

There are far far far far far far too many bow(e)ls.

I will never understand why some people feel the need to be offended by these mid to low level bowl games. There really only one or two bowl games that actually have much meaning when looking at it with an NFL or NCCA Big Dance perspective. Of course that will all change next year.

I love watching all the bowl games on TV even MAC, WAC, and Sunbelt affiliated games. In some cases the lower rung games are the best when a fat lazy program like USC has to travel to Shreveport or El Paso and gets it handed to them by a "lesser' more motivated team.

I traveled to a number of Gopher Bowl games and never regretted the decision once.

What is the downside, you actually can not watch the game if they are so offensive to you?

The good:

-unusual match ups
-if you like CFB it is better than anything else on TV
-sometime the Bowl benefits the local community
-the bowl benefits the players and coaches
-the bowl benefits any fans a team might have
-the bowl will benefit people like me what will watch any CFB game

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have sold <2,500 Gator Bowl tickets. This will be their worst bowl attendance ever.

Georgia fans will ensure that doesn't happen. Even if Nebraska brought 0 fans to this year's Gator Bowl, the attendance would still outpace the 2008 game between Virginia and Texas Tech (announced 60,000):

The 2012 game against Syracuse was sold out. Sold out doesn't mean that there was a butt in every seat, it means that all the tickets were sold. There were no-shows, of course, even the Super Bowl has some no-shows, but it was pretty well packed.

If we had beaten Michigan and/or Iowa head-to-head then I think we'd have a gripe about our bowl. The opponent we got stuck with though does suck. If West Virginia and TCU hadn't sucked so bad this year and played up to their norm, we'd be at a bowl maybe none of us would be crazy about but at least we'd have an opponent that we could get a bit excited with. The Big 12 having so few bowl eligible teams hurts.
