Do you remember all of the back and forth we had with Illini fans when we essentially traded verbal commits as one-time Gopher commit Phil Haig bolted for Illinois after one-time Illini commit Clint Brewster followed Coach Brew to Minnesota? Many on both sides were eager to see how it all played out. We obviously know that Clint left the U for a juco out West after one season; well Haig's career with the Illini baseball team (Phil also only was with the football program for one year) is now officially over as he was kicked off the team:

"We place great emphasis on conducting yourself in a way that represents our team and the University in a positive way, and Phil did not fulfill his responsibilities," head coach Dan Hartleb said in a press release. "We will move forward as a team in our preparation for the 2010 season."

While the Illinois athletic department refused to comment any further on the situation, Haig, a junior, was arrested for stealing more than $300 worth of electronics from a location in the 1000 block of Second Street last Friday, according to a report by the Champaign Police Department.

Go Gophers!!

Is this front page news in Champagne like it is here? It's a much smaller town than Minneapolis and it's a college town, maybe it is front page news?
