I think our fan section needs to step it up for the Michigan State game. I think they were okay against OSU, but they waited for the players to get them jacked up. A really good fan section like the Camron Crazies will be chanting basically throughout the game and cause major problems for the opposing team. It seems in other games on ESPN/BTN the sections are much louder. Is this a correct take? Or does it have something to do with where the microphones are placed for T.V. broadcasts?

I agree, they need to bump it up another notch... but that's not a knock on them just the importance of the game. It has been refreshing that the crowds have been pretty solid so far and now that our team is good we are no longer focusing on how good/bad the crowd is (see bball last two years, football this year) and rather keeping most of the comments focused on the team. Nice development.

Anyway, I'd expect it to be a pretty nutty crowd. Its a weekend game, albeit early. People watched the game last night and felt oh so close. They'll want revenge. They also saw the Cobbs call, Colt getting aggressive, and the overall bruising play. Sparty will bring that same play into The Barn and there will be plenty to hoot about. Izzo of course will be patrolling the sidelines - always good for some heckling. Lastly the team has really been hustling, playing aggressive, and progressing well. The fans feel it and will reward that effort.

Stay strong at Indiana and then start watching the clock until next Saturday. I'm *quite* anxious. : )

Not to make excuses about the Barnyard but when you are looking at student sections you have to look where and how they are seated. If you look at the 2 best examples the Izzone and the Cameron Crazies you will see that they basically ringing the court. Meaning except for a small portion of seating researved for the visiting teams guests they completely surround the court for 5-10 rows or what have you. Now I don't know all the details of the Barnyard but I think they are next to the court for only about 1/2 of 1 of the baseline. When you think about it how much of an advantage is that for MSU and Duke. I know the Barn isn't not set up very well for a student section to ring the court(mostly because of the raised floor) but my guess is that the Barnyard would be more effective with better seats(warning entering mini rant)but that would involve moving people seats who give alot of money and we all know in college athletics the most importent people are the ones who give the most. In fact the more you give the more important you are(end mini rant).

It is up to the vibrance and exuberance of the Student Section to let the visiting team know that...(see signature)

As a Spartan fan, I am very proud of the Izzone, for the most part. Sometimes their chhants go overboard on an opposing Kids legal problems or sometimes get personal about a girlfriend, I don't think there is a need for that but realize most cheering sections cross the line and the Izzone is no different. We do have a big advantage in that we ring 3/4 of the court (the Izzone has about 2800 members, some have to sit in the upper bowl)

What is the name of your cheering section, how many members? I know most of the other Big Ten teams names but when it comes to the Minn. cheering section, frankly I have heard little about it. I DO KNOW the Barn is a very tough place for MSU to play - not a fan of the raised floor, it always seemed dangerous for a player, yet I really can't say I have heard of any injuries due to a player falling off the floor.

Good Luck against Indiana, see you in a little over a week.

That just shows the importance they place on the students, who, fyi are THE home court advantage. I understand that it would be extremely difficult to move the student section to the sidelines like Michigan did (kudos to Amaker on that). However, it's ridiculous that they sold out section 112. That used to be student seating when I was in school, and then they turned it into reserved seating where former players, families, etc. sit. You think KU couldn't make a lot more if they didn't reserve more than 4,000 of its 16,300 seats reserved for them (The Barnyard has about 1/2 of that, 2200)? Of course - but that's what creates a winning atmosphere.

Fyi - the Izzone was by far, the best student section I had ever seen. I was there when they blew out the Gophs a few years ago - and they were still loud and into the game. Bres is the best away venue I'd ever been to, loved it.

Why not move part of the Barnyard to the sidelines? At Crisler Arena tonight, there are just 6 rows of students on the sidelines. The revenue could be offset with donations similar to TCF Stadium and those first few rows are not the best sight-lines anyway. Sure some long-timers will object but if that's what it takes to get a more dominate home-court. So be it. And, by having the standing students in front of old, season ticket holders, we could get them to request upper deck seats and irritate more people. I'm in row 18 anyway. So what if I move up to row 24 if it's a loud barn.
