The ball is the program

Peej with the mayonnaise bath trumped any "better" bowl game!

Solid statistic. Keeps the team competitive even in games where there's an overwhelming talent disparity. Not always.....but certainly more often than in the past. Good way to manage a program such as this.

One of the best things about Max was how he worked through progressions and scanned the field before making a decision. Knowing when and when not to throw is big for a quarterback and it helped limit interceptions.

Fleck keeps improving in these metrics year over year, correct? It seems that he has a significantly good plan in place no matter the coordinators.
Another PJ Fleck Statistical Fantasy.....

Turnover Margin for the past three years:
2022 Season 2; O: (7 Fumbles, 9 Interceptions thrown); D: (4 fumbles rec., 14 Ints)
2023 Season 2; O: (9 Fumbles, 11 INTs); D: (10 Fum Rec, 12 Ints)
2024 Season 10; O: (10 Fumbles, 6 INTs); D: (9 Fum Rec, 17 Ints)

That +10 looks great! Until.....

B1G games only
2022 B1G Season 0 O: (5 Fumbles, 8 Interceptions thrown); D: (2 fumbles rec., 11 Ints)
2023 B1G Season 4; O: (6 Fumbles, 6 INTs); D: (9 Fum Rec, 7 Ints)
2024 B1G Season 3, O: (7 Fumbles, 4 INTs); D: (5 Fum Rec, 9 Ints)

+3 is not a bad number, but it's not a difference-maker throughout the season.

I argue that this year's B1G slate was more challenging than PJ's B1G West Slates, so any improvement is good, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We actually had better takeaway numbers in conference in 2023 (16) vs. 2024 (14), but our giveaways were worse. (12 v. 11). Our conf. turnover margin in 2023 was actually better at +4 vs. +3.

So yeah. We're top 25 recruiting if you only look in June and ignore the bottom half of the conference final numbers throughout the Fleck era, and our monstrous year on Defensive takeaways looks a hell of a lot better until you notice two really weak teams (Masonesque scheduling, if you will) significantly inflated this year's numbers. 6 of the 17 INTs (35%) were against Rhode Island and Nevada. Of course, we've played weak teams in past years and not dominated like we did this year, perhaps the biggest improvement for a PJ coached team in years.
