Per Mitch:
The concept of playing volleyball at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium began as a dream.
A farfetched one at that.
“It was a joke,” coach John Cook said. “We never thought seriously about doing it.”
History indicates that Nebraska volleyball dreams big. It’s won five national championships, including four for Cook, who is in his 24th season. The Huskers enjoy consistency and fan support unlike any other program in their sport.
Nebraska packed extra seating onto the stadium floor and added bleachers to meet the demand for tickets. It sold the initial allotment of 82,900 tickets over three days in April at $25 per adult seat.
Weather permitting — the forecast looks favorable — Cook’s team will compete before a crowd in excess of 90,000 and likely top the 91,648 that attended Barcelona vs. Wolfsburg in April 2022 in a Women’s Champions League semifinal.
