Does it really matter if your 30th or 39th?
Not to the fate of the universe, but it's a decent difference in the pecking order.

The computers saw what we saw, which was a team that probably could have finished 9-4 or even 10-3 with a couple different bounces/calls

Or 5-7. Record is what it is. Every team can say the same thing though.

I thought it was a little low as well, but as was the case in the B1G this year, I don’t think there’s a lot of separation between some of these programs. Minnesota proved they could hang with just about any team in the country. They also proved they could lose to pretty much any bowl team. I’m happy with the state of the program and season as a whole.

This is lowballing the Gophers. Most of the computer models put the Gophers between 25-30.

ESPN FPI, SP+, TeamRankings, Sagarin, Massey all put the Gophers in that range.
Losses to Rutgers #51 & North Carolina #63 didn't help. In the Top 40 seems about right.

Sagarin has several rankings including "recent" and "strong recent" where early games carry less weight. His "recent" ranking for the Gophers was 16 and his "strong recent" ranking was 11. Makes some sense since the Gophers started out 2-3 (0-3 against power conference teams) but won 6 of their last 8 games with one of the losses by 1 point to national semifinalist Penn State.

I still can’t believe how flat we were at Rutgers. I’m not a betting guy but I would have put o ton on us that day thought the fellas would be breathing fire to come after AK!? Played slow and soft and this years team wasn’t like that.

The computers saw what we saw, which was a team that IF THE COACHING STAFF COULD HAVE HAD THEM PREPARED FOR. A WEAK MICHIGAN TEAM VS NOT SHOWING UP FOR THE FIRST HALF IN ALL THREE PHASES OF THE GAME AND DIDN"T COMPLETELY SHIT THEMSELVES (COACHES AND PLAYERS) IN THE SECOND HALF AGAINST IOWA probably could SHOULD have finished 9-4 or even 10-3 with a couple different bounces/calls
FIFY

Lot of people saying we should have been at least 8 - 4 in regular season so 9 - 4 after bowl. However, though it doesn't really matter, if we were 8 - 4, we probably get a better bowl game and tougher opponent so no guarantee we win bowl game. Carry on.

Make a play against Rutgers and North Carolina and you’re 15-18

Miss a play against USC and UCLA and you’re 75
You knuckleheads are so soft. 39 is about right where we belonged but I think the bigger question is how can pj be our savior if he’s only gotten one top 25 ranking in eight years? He has potential but eight years in it’s been disappointing.

I think the Gophers beat a number of teams ahead of them in those rankings, but also can't disagree with them given the overall body of work. I am not sure it matters with how teams approach bowl games now, but I really wish we would have played someone better than Virginia Tech this year. A win wouldn't have been enough to get in to the top 25, but it might have helped with perception. As you can see we were preseason 61 from the Athletic. Nebraska was 36th and Iowa 18th. It would be nice to earn (or be given) the benefit of the doubt to start a season.
