The 2025 Gophers football season will be a sucsss if?…

Id consider 8-4 (5-4) to be successful in as much as it wouldnt be a disappointment. For it to be successful in the sense that I am really pleased with the outcome, id say 10 wins (including postseason).
I also think that 8-4 would be successful. But it we somehow start out 8-0, I would be very frustrated with 8-4.

Assuming Oregon and OSU are in the loss column at 8-4, who are the other two losses if Gophs beat Iowa and Bucky?
Could be any of the conference opponents on a bad day, although Purdue would take a really bad day.

Nebraska
Cal
Rutgers
Michigan state

All power 5 teams that will be between 5-8 wins I think.

Buffalo
Northwestern
Northwestern state
Purdue
I see those 4 as wins

Ohio state and Oregon I see as losses

The 6 games:
Wisconsin
Iowa
Nebraska
Michigan state
Rutgers
Cal

Make or break the season
And I listed them in order of importance
So who do you think are the other two losses?

Seasons at or above .500 (conference records):

FLECK (8 total seasons): 2-7, 3-6, 7-2, 3-4, 6-3, 5-4, 3-6, 5-4 (4 of 8 seasons, 50%)

KILL/CLAEYS (6 total seasons): 2-6, 2-6, 4-4, 5-3, 2-6, 5-4 (3 of 6 seasons, 50%)

MASON
(10 total seasons) 1-7, 2-6, 5-3, 4-4, 2-6, 3-5, 5-3, 3-5, 4-4, 3-5 (4 of 10 seasons, 40%)

--------

if you change the qualifier/cutoff from "at and above .500" to "above .500", you get...

FLECK: 4 of 8 (50% of his seasons)

KILL/CLAEYS: 2 of 6 (33% of their seasons)

MASON: 2 of 10 (20%of his seasons)
Correct. Keep in mind I started with 1999 as the cutoff, which eliminates two Mason seasons.

So who do you think are the other two losses?
I think the team is going 10-2!
But if they’re 8-4 with wins against Wisconsin and Iowa the other two losses in my opinion would be Cal on the road with a freshmen QB and Nebraska

But I don’t know.

Those games against Rutgers and Michigan state are 60-40 games
Would definitely pick gophers to win but definitely wouldn’t be shocked by a loss

Cal is my road trip game so selfishly want a win. Agree that 10-2 is achievable. Nebby concerns me only because of the Gophs current win streak against them.

My road game is wrigley this year

Enjoy!

I think they have to win 8 games and have Floyd and the Axe. The Jug would be a bonus. Plus win a bowl game.

They only play two teams that are currently ranked going into the season. That's 10 games you should have a chance to win and probably will be favored in 8 of them.

Michigan isn't on the schedule this year.

At the Fair today! Gopher players were so kind talking to everyone! Drake is huge! I spent the summer ignoring the Twins, I knew they would crush my Fandom anyway. 👎 Now I am so pumped for GFB!!! I am confident this team will be fun to watch, even if they don't win 10, 9, 8 games. They'll be in every game, they won't look like a DivII team! I love the optimism I feel for the season and it's not blind it's possible they will make the playoffs! Playoffs! We're talking playoffs! Maybe I am a bit carried away, regardless i look forward to college football!!! Especially Gopher football!

9+ wins two of those being against Wisconsin and Iowa

…if we beat Iowa, Nebraska and wisconsin all in the same season. It’s time. If we do this, I am confident most of our other goals will be achieved as well.

Go Gophers!!

Revisiting my defined season of success from August. We got 2/3 rivalry games, and Fleck's inability to beat Iowa (and this case, got our asses handed to us) and inability to not have a clunker or two, is putting a definite ceiling on the programs progress.

Good to be wisconsin and Nebraka's Daddy, but the same can be said by Ferentz to Fleck. We have to change that trend. It's time.

Go Gophers!!

5-4 or better is a success
But it could be successful and also disappointing if it’s 7-5 (5-4)
I feel the same way I felt about this post in August.

I wish we were better and so it’s disappointing the team was not better. But hard for Me to be too mad about this season all things considered.

I hope we get better!

Considering that 9 players from last year's team are on a NFL roster and we had a freshman QB with a very good number of young guys gaining experience, I would say 8 wins this season was a good season. I think the bar raises for next season. Probably a tougher schedule overall but we should be much better and more consistent.

Considering this thread, this can't be considered a successful season.

5-4 in confernce, snuck in wins where teams pre-Fleck may have not. Left a good chunk of meat on the bone, I'm glad we have a solid core coming back to run it again next year. 8 wins and people are pissed, the expectations have been elevated substantially. These kids have grit, that's the sign of a well led team. Need better playcalling.

I'm not happy but I'm not upset.

Staccato post over.

Agree.
They left two on the table.
They were out classed in 3
They could’ve easily lose 4-5 more.

So a 6-6 team went 8-5

Meaning I’m glad we went 8-5 but I wish we Weren’t a 6-6 team.
Would rather be a 9-3 team that went 10-2

Good post! Bar most certainly is raised for next season. As you mentioned, we had a lot of holes to fill this season and had to rely on uncertain transfers in a lot of places. Some of these (for example, Nestor, Weston, Tracy, and Biber were either really good or good enough). Some (like Roberson and AJ Turner due to injury) were mostly nonexistent. Others (like the ones on the offensive line) were mostly poor.

The good thing about next season is that we don't appear to need as many transfers as we needed this season.

I wanted an 8 game win regular season. Looking at all the struggles, Northwestern is the game that bit us on a really good season.

I still can't be that angry about that game because it was one of our better offensive games, had 242 kick return yards, and were in place to tie the game at the end (I hope we have a new kicker next season).
