Tharpe to KU

you cant be serious about stark. probably chip, or i could see austin hollins there possibly. maybe JC if he improves his handle. who knows, hopefully this helps us land a top PG next year. Andre still could fill this roll

Even if we get Hollins, who else are we going after? We have 3 scholarships to give out, correct?

Nice job patting yourself on the back. You really went out on the limb predicting Kansas. I hear they have a horrible program over there. I can't believe we lost a recruit to them.

I'll bet Tharpe signs with KU. Hope he comes here, but Tubby has not been terribly impressive recruiting out of state talent in his 4 years here.

Wish I had been wrong last week. Hopefully Hollins signs here in the next couple of weeks.

My first thought on reading this was about Marcus Paige as well. I had always assumed Kansas would be a leading candidate for him. I think Kansas already has a shooting guard in that class so maybe now they're done with guards?

Does Paige have a list of finalists? And if so who is still on it?

Maybe this is a hopeless exercise in looking for a silver lining, but Paige sounds like an outstanding player.

Kansas (and other elite schools) often sign players like Tharpe and Paige in back-2-back classes.

I know that.

I was asking if anyone had any insight as to what KU might be thinking in regard to this specific situation. Would they continue to still pursue Paige or not? Will Paige still be interested in KU now that they've added a PG?

I understand how elite programs recruit. But, I also understand there are no absolutes, either, and was wondering if anyone (i.e. maybe JohnnyGopher) might have some insight on KU and Paige.

My guesses (just that) are Yes and Yes.

Players that get a chance to attend Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA often do so regardless of other players on their rosters. The elite schools get most of the elite players.

Josh Selby: he's ranked anywhere from #1 to #8 for incoming freshman recruits in the country, and the top freshman PG. He's enrolled at KU, but the NCAA is holding up his eligibility while investigating some irregularities in his application. The eligibility issue, and Josiah Turner choosing Arizona over KU, is why KU suddenly became interested in Tharpe.

Yes, I'm aware of Josh Selby. I'm still trying to figure out who this Josh Shelby kid is though.

I was hoping Tubby would stop these types of things from happening, but I guess not (so far).

Didn't Devoe Joseph have an offer from Kansas? That's one instance where Tubby beat out one of the big boys (KU, UK, UNC, Duke, MSU, etc.). Just pointing that out.

You were hoping he would not lose out on recruits to the top tier programs? It's not like this kid was a Minnesota player.

Do you post as Badgergopher man on the Wisconsin boards?

I'm interested to see where this leads in 2012 and beyond. Tharpe was clearly not one of their top choices at PG and Kansas is already after several top PGs for the class of 2012, so I can't help but wonder if Tharpe ends up getting recruited over and either accepts being a back-up (or benchwarmer) or ends up transferring at some point.

Kansas will certainly recruit and likely sign other top shelf PG in 2012 and beyond. Tharpe plays with other good PG at Brewster, too.

Fine josh selby, happy? i was pretty far off in my spelling.

Dpdoll can't comprehend anything that's not spelled 100% correctly. Either that or he gets off on being anal and pointing them out. Not sure which.

What do you all think are the odds Tharpe transfers from Kansas? They're better than you might expect. Thomas Robinson, who I believe also went from Brewster to KU, looked in over his head at Kansas last year & played very sparingly - this is a year where he's either gotta shape up or ship out if he wants to play. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Robinson transfer from KU if things aren't going his way this season. My point is that Brewster has a track record of having a lot of college transfers because they get placed in programs that they don't really belong at. Several from the '08 class alone have already transferred before their junior seasons. It seems to me that Brewster gets these kids in over their heads, placing them at programs that they aren't good enough to play a lot at. If KU gets another, better PG in the '12 class (such as Paige), Tharpe is not going to see the PT that he was hoping for - so much for the comments he made about not wanting competition for PT!

I am not sure Tubby would like the idea of being snuffed on a recruit and letting them transfer in as their "fallback" option after they failed at the school that beat him out. But who knows, maybe FOT can tell us if that has happened with him before. I doubt it

Was Trevor originally recruited by Tubby?

~ Aug 2006 - Mbakwe commits to Marquette
~ March 2007 - Tubby named HC of Minnesota

I'm not sure I understand the ? exactly but here's my guess at a reply. Two guesses, actually.

Tubby wanted Chris Duhon badly as PG recruit in 2000. But Duhon opted for Duke on his visit. Tubby "settled" for HS A-A and VA MR B-ball Cliff Hawkins instead. Duhon was better but Hawkins was darn good, too. Not the same exactly.

Tubby recruited Patrick Sparks in 2001 but signed Adam Chiles instead. When Chiles transferred in 2002, Tubby got Sparks as transfer to UK in 2003. Not the same exactly.

Tubby took only 1 Div I transfer at UK (Sparks). I don't think he took anyone at Georgia. Maybe Tulsa, too far back to remember.
