Texas Tech at Alabama

You guys are turning into the Kentucky fans I despised when we hired Tubby. Let it go. The man did some great things here amidst the disappointment.

I liked Tubby but wasn't crazy about the January/February meltdown every year. No bad feelings for him but excited about the new direction of the team.

Kinda weird seeing almost our entire staff from last year sitting on somebody else's bench.

Trevor Releford looks good...didn't Tubby try to recruit him here? (Or am I thinking of Travis Releford?)

You're right, the number of empty seats -- GOOD empty seats -- is unbelievable. I think our scrimmages drew better than this "Big 12-SEC Challenge" game.

I can't take my eyes off of the section behind the Alabama bench. It's like 1/2 full.

3 shot clock violations so far with the Tubby Smith standing offense working to perfection...

Love the standing offense!! Is Esposito doing any LMFAO tweets about his great scheduling; LOL. Any Tubby stares? Any putting in a 12th man for someone who tried to create some offense?

Out of a time out and TTech can't get a shot off before the shot clock expires against a zone...still the same old Tubby...

Also , Tubby nap tonight or Tubby stare>?

Well they must've done a lot of standing around on offense last year as well, since the same team only won 11 games.

I agree with the first part of your post. I'm not sure that I would use the word "great" to describe any of Tubby's accomplishments here. He is a nice man who was an average to slightly above average coach with a below .500 B1G record who kept the program clean and out of trouble. He left it in about the same shape as he found it in terms of the quality of the players on the roster. I think that's his legacy.

You realize he took the Gophers to the NCAA Tournament three times in a five year span for the first time in history, right? Took a nine win team to 20 wins. Five of his six years had 20 or more wins for the first time in program history. As we watch the Big 3 head out the door, signed Royce and Rodney when they could've bolted for better programs. Beat #10 Butler, #9 Louisville, North Carolina, #11 Michigan State, #6 Purdue, swept Wisconsin in 2008-09, beat #1 Indiana.

Throw in his work in the community and the fact that he has been nothing but class since getting canned, I won't be trashing him or rooting for him to lose.

Maybe in 10 years we'll be pining for the good ol' days of Tubby like many on this board do with Clem and the revisionist history of his coaching career.

But...

Gopher Big Ten Finishes:
2013 - 7th
2012 - 9th
2011 - 9th
2010 - 6th
2009 - 7th
2008 - 6th

This Tubby debate is intriguing. He has done some nice accomplishments with the gopher team — stellar wins — and some meh results in the B1G season. I still remember when he beat MSU in the B1G tourney.

Speaking of his performance in the B1G seasons. I'd be interested to see what record Kentucky had against B1G teams in general.

Nevermind I dug the record up from Pitino's first year (89-90) and Kentucky's record against Big10 teams is 29-15. (I was going to make an argument that Big 10 teams are hard to play against because of the conference style but... they did well against our conference.) [edited]

Our conference is a whole different monster — no wonder kids run to the west coast in hopes to secure good stats to help them towards the NBA draft.

First post by the way. Hiya all! Been looking for the rabid fans. It has been lonely on twitter. I end up ranting to myself.

Time to move on from Tubby. Wish him well.

Ha... I just tuned in and TT passed the ball around and got a shot clock violation. You can't make this stuff up.
Didn't even get a shot off.

(Sample size of 1.. just thought it was funny given all the comments about Tubby's anemic offense).

Wow, I tuned in at exactly the same moment!

People being a little hard on the Beave here. I thought Tech made a pretty good accounting of themselves in the final result, on the road against a quality opponent. They had some energy, and they scrapped. Considering the comments on this board, I was pleasantly surprised with their players - they do have some guys who can do some things.

As with here, Tubby's offense seemed to do best in transition or when improvising. There was no recognizable half-court offense. I don't miss that. Alabama didn't exploit the ball line defense the way some of our better-coached opponents used to.
