Texas State looking at Brew as HC, an interview with Nadine

Brewster never coached against (and thus never lost to) any DII schools.

Also, Brewster's oldest recruits (not counting the leftovers he was able to sign over the last two weeks in 2007) were juniors and RS sophomores this last season.

Just a stellar effort all-around on this post.

Stellar reading effort on your part to go along with it I guess. Recent DII schools. NDSU and USD were all DII schools within the decade. And not to rehash things, but if Mason's guys were so awful, why were so many still playing and why couldn't juniors and redshirt sophomores contribute more? No defense of Mason here. Point being is that the poster was ignorant apologist for a coach whom I'm not sure could carry water for Jim Wacker.

...The only talent you had was fooling people into thinking you could recruit. Yet your supposedly superior recruits couldn't save you from losses to recent DII schools, Tim...

Swede,

That is perhaps the best and most concise summary of what brewster brought to our beloved state of Minnesota.

Nice job...

Pretty good interview. The only  was this:

"We had fired Glen Mason, who brought us to medicocrity and made us a contender in the Big 10 .."

Glen did a little better then bringing the Gophers "to medicocrity", but he never made them a contender for the Big Ten title. He finished 4th three times. That's not mediocre, but it's not a contending for a title either.

When was the third time we finished 4th? Mediocre is the perfect word to describe the Glen Mason era.

Yep, that's the traditional career arc that most coaches undergo, with the Jim Harbaugh type being the exception rather than the rule. You hone your skills at the lower levels, and then you progressively work your way upward as warranted. That's exactly what Kill has done, and that's just part of why I like him.

I look at the head coaches that have come out of schools like Miami of Ohio and Wyoming, after matriculating their way up to those levels, and later leaving when they made the big time of college ball, and there's an awful lot to be said for that traditional career path, where you advance because you've learned what you need to learn at that level and because you're ready to do so, and that's based on merit. You prove your readiness to move on by winning.

How is Harbaugh the exception?

Harbaugh went from a non-scholarship 1aa school (San Diego) straight to a BCS program.

Wrong. What Brew brought to our beloved State of Minnesota was the ability to dream about winning a Big 10 Championship and going to the Rose Bowl. Mason's legacy was all about making excuses for why that would never happen for the Gophers and being satisfied with a good ground game and extreme mediocrity in the won/loss column.

Mason was rehired Tim. Get over it and good luck at Texas Pan America.

And where did all this dreaming get us anyway? Right back in the crapper and a joke of a program.

Oh, and about your other post on the clown Brewster, sleeping in your office in August does not equate to hard work.

Also, ask some people at Bierman if about what a "great/ nice" guy he was. It was all BS and smoke. I do not really care, because many HC coaches are the biggest phonys and jerks you will ever meet. (Lou Holtz)

The smart, honest, but tough ones like the great Woody Hayes and Bob Knight take all the heat.

Saps like you drink up the Kook Aid and believe the BS.

unrelated note

Nice job by your midget hero Rukavina though. After all the millions have been pissed away, have you changed your tune yet?

Yes, let's all applaud Brewster for his salesman BS. Surely, Brewster's legacy will be defined by him instilling dreams of Pasadena in the Gopher faithful -- well, that and him being an ALL-AROUND TERRIBLE AND INCOMPETENT FOOTBALL COACH.

I wish Brew all the best but if a school is willing to give him an interview they should also be looking at Horton.

Wacker did well at lower levels, but was awful here. It could be that Brewster would do better at a lower level.
