Jim Delaney was quoted as saying in the next 12-18 months he wants to add two more teams to the big ten. He also said the Big Ten is not interested in anymore teams from the Big 12. So who are the other two teams that he wants? Obviously Notre Dame, but assuming they wont come, who is he looking at?
The Big Ten will not add a 13th and 14th team until Notre Dame wants to join. The drastic change isn't worth the minimal amount of revenue that would be raised by adding a 13th team.
Assuming Nebraska brings the TV deal and bowl revenue to 28+ million per year per school, The next two additions would have to be adding an average of 42 million dollars per school to break even. A school like Missouri only adds that much value if it is the 12th team and it is the cause of a conference title game. Since that already exists, there are very few schools that would add value to the conference.
Assuming what you say is true, my guess would be that The Big Ten would like to get to a season with the 12 to have some hard data to go on unless the Texas deal jumps up and or ND. Going east seems to be somewhat of a longshot at this time. I do not think The Big Ten wants to be known for initiating an attack on two conferences and rendering them great damage. I can hear it now; its all the fault of the Big Ten Network. However, they can always say that The PAC 10 fired the first shot.
