“I think we’re going to be in good shape,” Teague said. “They’ve been great to deal with. It should be pretty seamless. They’re not going to do a whole lot to the stadium.”

What will they do to TCF Bank Staduim?

“They may add some bleachers to the open end of the stadium,” Teague said. “They’re not sure about that. They may put heating coils underneath the field. They’re not sure about that. It’ll be some extra work but it’s not going to be an insurmountable construction or anything like that.

“It’ll be a lot of time for our staff to be there on a Sunday. Very rarely will it be a back-to-back situation, where we play on Saturday and they play on Sunday. I think it’ll be great. It’ll be fun. We’re looking forward to having them.”

Go Gophers!!

Sounds a bit like damage control PC double talk. But hey if that helps some people sleep better at night so be it.

If it was maturi I would say we were hosed. With teague it is trust unless hard proof to the contrary.

We don't need heating coils. The heated tarps work fine in Chicago and they will work fine here. Not like it matters to the Gophs..they won't be playing in Dec. If the field sucks, it will be on the Vikings for not doing it.

^^^ That ^^^ is the smartest thing you have said in a long time!

in corporate speak, Norwood is slapping the vikes in public.

I trust the Vikings. They have a long history of team personnel setting the highest standards of human behavior. I have great faith that their owner will negotiate honestly with the university. His reputation of transparency is unmatched.

we should not expect a competitor to deal above board.

If they don't put the coils in I hope TCF is a skating rink in December.

There are different technologies to warm the field without the underground coils. Soldier Field uses the heated tarp, and that seems to work.

bears field is actually grass...ryt?

I don't remember the old Met being a skating rink in December, or Memorial having field issues for late November games. Neither of those stadiums had heating coils although the old Met was thawed using flame throwers I think.

Ha Ha Ha. ZIggy and Rec McCombs!

just keep the block M and the maroon end zone, that is all i am asking for, like last time

So can we just leave the field as is then? The Vikings are trying to cheat on this arrangement at every turn and will continue do so. This will not be a healthy partnership. I only hope the u of m powers that be don't take it in pants like we always seem to do.

My concern about using heating tarps is where to store them during a game. There isn't a lot of room between the sidelines and the wall and having a huge rolled up tarp next to the walls may interfere with sideline activities like kicking and QB practice reps, cheerleading and fans having easy access to the field after a huge victory. Not to mention it will be plain butt ugly and will cover up the great brick facade. And for all but maybe one cold weather game a year, the U will want to find an off field storage area for the tarps, which just adds to the cost. Plus, they will most likely wear out much faster than heating coils and the Gophers will either want to buy a replacement, or lose the capability of having a nice freezing weather playing surface.

I hope Teague doesn't back down on the deal and will use other bargaining chips like signage, logos and amenities to pressure the Vikes into keeping their offer to install the coils.

We don't have a stinking tarp now, why would we want to keep it after the Vikes leave? Throw it out, or better yet, tell the Vikings to throw it out. I would assume it would fit fine under the stadium and could be rolled up and removed altogether, but maybe it just needs to go behind the visitor's bench. Seems like a silly thing to get so worried about...

Put it IN FRONT of the visitors bench.

I don't see why the Vikings need a tarp or coils or anything really. The field isn't important to the game and it isn't like the Vikings have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for all their players. If someone gets hurt you just replace them. No worries.

The Vikes have to be careful how they play this. Scenario - they Do NOT put in heating coils, and go for the blanket/tarp. Late in the season in a cold-weather home game, a key player is injured. The fans and media promptly spend the next year pounding the Vikes because they were too cheap to put in heating coils, so the injury is their fault. I don't think they want to deal with that.

The bold is what makes your statement accurate.

I go back to the original thread when Lester Bagely made the public statement that 'they/we' may not install heating coils. It was the best Alexander Haig impressions I have ever seen. He really came across as though he/the Vikes were in charge of TCF now. That's what really PO'd me.

If a key Vikings player is injured on the field, I have a feeling the local media will figure out a way to blame the U.
