Teague deserves credit for getting us to Houston

There is more truth to this than we can imagine. A couple of years ago in Sports Illustrated, an article about the Bowl Games had a comment from the Michigan AD, concerning the prior year which was a non-bowl year for Michigan. He said (paraphrased), that Michigan made money that year because they did not have a bowl game.

This is true, but only in the short run. The exposure the bowl game will give the University will be paid back in future years by increased football attendance, increased desire to attend Minnesota, and better football recruits - all of which result in more money flowing in to the university.

Is nobody going to comment on the fact that the Director of the bowl in Houston's name is Heather Houston?

Director of a bowl game is my dream job. The woman who runs the Las Vegas Bowl (Tina Kutzer Murphy or something like that) makes a huge salary. For some reason $250,000 rings a bell. Good work if you can get it.

Good article. The "less money" for Minnesota is true but has nothing to do with the Gophers going "Bowling" and all to do with the Big Ten getting only ONE BCS Bowl. The Big Ten had a huge advantage over other Conferences because TV ratings have shown that Big Ten teams draw viewers. That meant that usually they'd get an "At Large" bid along with the Rose Bowl. Adding a Conference Championship Game means one more loss to a possible At Large Team.

Now add their best team OSU being on probation and that extra $18,000,000 goes away and so does the Gophers share of it.

The question is how often will that Championship Game will hurt more than help?
