TCF Bank Stadium may play host to MLS soccer for a season

From the pics of the soccer stadium, it doesn't look like they're planning for any sort of future expansion. Along those lines of thought, are there any renderings out there of TCF showing the expansion of the upper decks?

Not sure why this stadium would need expansion. 25,000 seems like a pretty aggressive number for MLS. And no, there have never been renderings released for an expansion of TCF.

Stunning pics, love the concept. It'll probably change a bunch in the next several months, but good start

The renderings look great. Really great.

And I'm glad they upped it to 23k from the 18k we were previously told.

Just got an email from MN United saying they will be playing Club Leon at Target Field in June. Maybe testing out Target field and they won't be using TCF?

I would imagine a decision would have been made prior to Late June, so this is either a one time thing or they've already decided to use Target Field.

The sight lines look terrible from the seating chart they have. Those seats down the third base line and and behind home plate are so far away. I really hope this is just for fun but I fear that you may be correct. TCF would be so much better.

There's a difference between a 1-shot game vs a whole season of use.

The New York team plays at Yankee Stadium, so I don't see this as being out of the question. I know a lot of soccer teams prefer real grass, so that would be one advantage.

I would think it'd be easier to just paint the lines on the grass for the games then have to redo the field at TCF twice (once to remove all markings and the other to put them back).

The sucky sight lines are probably not too big of a deal. If they sell the bad sight line tickets cheap it gets people into the game and builds the fan base before the new stadium. Kind of like the Wolves playing in the Metrodome their first year.

The problem is, soccer is played rain or shine (only lightning stops a game). Target Field is known for having good playing surface. Will soccer hurt that?

One of the reasons they are probably choosing Target field is Pohalds part ownership

I have a feeling if the FC United use Target Field for one season it is because the Pohlad group is part of the ownership of the United when they make the jump to MLS. Target Fields seating is not conducive for a great fan experience for Soccer, but
it does have natural grass, and they probably want to limit the amount of rent and staff money they have to pay the concessionaires.

It does make a lot of sense for many different reasons. Sight lines and distance to pitch are a big black eye though. Also, scheduling around an MLB season is going to be difficult. Much more difficult than scheduling around Gopher Football.

I'll be content with wherever they choose, but TCF is a better soccer stadium than Target Field from a fan's perspective. From a financial perspective, Target Field may make more sense.
