Tate Forcier leaving Michigan

Wow. Now THAT is a profound series of tweets. He's a very well-spoken young guy. It surprises me that he ran into academic issues, but probably he was distracted by outside things.

It's obvious he didn't belong at scUM, per his tweet:

"Be grateful for what you have and be humble for your successes."

I guess that rules out a transfer to tOSU, Iowa and Whiskey.

I don't know what happened at Michigan and I am not going to pretend to, however, the Forcier family are kind of known for their gimmicks.

All three of the brothers got Division 1 scholarships and now I don't think any of them finished at the school where they started (they all transferred after they lost their starting QB jobs). Their dad runs this kind of obsessive website called something like qbforce.com, that talks about their kids playing QB and the pop warner coaches who screwed them over and made them move and the HS coaches that made the Forcier boys move around Southern California. Tate also had academic issues in HS that forced him to go to a charter school (and essentially pick his own HS because the charter school didn't have a football team). They just really come off as complainers, braggers, and kind of an obsessive family.

Put it this way, I am not surprised at all to see that Forcier is gone after he lost his starting job. I don't neccesarily blame him, but i'm also not surprised he left with some controversy surrounding his departure.

That sucks. I can't stand it when father's do that to their boys, trying to micromanage their lives via their sporting endeavors in order to try and fulfill something lacking within themselves. I think that's sick and all it does is harm the kid and diminish the enjoyment he should be feeling in participating in that sport in the first place. That kind of reminds me of Todd Marinovich, the 'RoboQB' who was basically raised from toddlerhood to be an eventual NFL QB, or Gregg Jefferies in baseball, whose father did the same thing to him.

I don't like that one bit. Fricken back off and let the kid breathe, and maybe even let him be what and how and who *he* wants to be, as radical a concept as that might be.

Wow, Bob. I visited that website...that family (and father in particular, I'm guessing) is crazy. Absolutely loony (double entendre intended).

I teach at a ritzy private school and every once in a while I run into a parent like him -- someone who is clearly trying to live vicariously through their children and judges themselves by their child's successes. To top it off, it sounds like he is a megalomaniac. I feel bad for any teacher/coach who has dealt with him in the past.

Yeah, Marv Marinovich also helped train these kids, so Papa Forcier is definitely in the Marv Marinovich mold.

Eker....yeah, I rechecked the website, it is actually toned down from how it was last year at this time. I know they received a lot of bad attention from their website, so it is actually missing what was the oddest section. But yeah, the whole website is still pretty loony.

The Tweets from Tate to announce his transfer is an improvement over the press release from his brother Chris. I'll copy and paste and give the link because most people probably wouldn't believe this is real without it. http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla/2009/06/forciers-press-release.html#more

Statement of Facts

Fact: I was a National Recruit out of High School including multiple Pac-10 offers.

Fact: I was a scout.com (4) Star QB labeled as a dual-threat. I learned a complicated offense that calls for a pocket passing QB.

Fact: I'm a life long UCLA Fan. I love UCLA Football. Most Bruin fans have been very supportive/good people.

Fact: I've always worked hard in the classroom as a student athlete where I've been recognized as a UCLA Honor Roll student.

Fact: I've competed hard in games and on the practice field, in film and meetings where I've always come prepared, attentive, always taking notes.

Fact: I believe my UCLA teammates respect me, especially the defense since my freshman year including past D-Coordinator Coach Walker.

Fact: I was practice player of the week as a freshman multiple times.

Fact: New QB Coach Norm Chow and New Head Coach Rick Neuheisel have brought in and played since day (1) their own guys (Quarterbacks)
i.e. Kevin Craft.

Fact: In late February New QB Coach Norm Chow told me that the younger guys would get most of the QB reps in Spring Ball.

Fact: This is a pattern nationally. When New Coaches come in, they recruit their own guys, especially at the quarterback position. It's just like the corporate world, New Owners bring in New Management. With that being said, I do not fault them.

Fact: In early March 2009, after seeing the writing on the wall, I reluctantly requested a meeting with Coach Neuheisel. In our meeting, I respectfully requested a "Permission to Contact Letter" NCCA bylaws 13.1.1.3 Personal request attached, not to be confused with a 'Release" as it was inaccurately reported by Brian Dohn of Inside UCLA, the Bruin Report and a few others.

Fact: My heart is at the Quarterback position. I have several solid options around the country to play. My quandary is and always has been that I also love UCLA.

Fact: I've always been a "team player" and have done what has been asked of me. Including but not limited to practicing WR in this years spring ball. Not to be confused with moving permanently to the position as it was again inaccurately reported.

Fact: In 2007, I was (1) of the top (7) Quarterbacks in the country. However, none of that matters unless there is true opportunity to compete afforded.

Fact: I have reached my decision "Furman University" Greenville, South Carolina.

Fact: I like and believe in Head Coach Bobby Lamb's system and style. I am looking forward to the challenges at Furman University.

Fact: I would like to wear #7 as I did in High School at Saint Augustine in San Diego, California.

Fact: I want to be part of the "Greatness of Fuhman University" academic's.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Note that he misspelled "Furman" University and added an unnecessary apostrophe in the word academics in his last statement of fact. Priceless.

Wow. I had no idea that Marinovich was involved, and find that absolutely creepy. It also makes me feel very badly for the young players who are saddled with that kind of unfortunate situation, because it absolutely saps the joy out of football for them. The pressure and impossible expectations that Marinovich heaped upon his son made football seem like it was a 'job' to him by the time he was playing upper elementary and junior high football, and it robbed him of the enjoyment and pleasure of playing the game. It also made him an outcast, because his father was so incredibly insane and such a monumental pain in the ass to everyone associated with those football teams that naturally all that negativity got transferred onto the boy, and it's no wonder he felt joyless as a result.

And any father would want to involve Marinovich Sr. in his sons lives, well that would really make me feel the need to question that guy's mental health and sanity, and pray for his sons, because they need it.

This is the Forcier family that Southern California has grown to know and love.

Ahhh, the Forciers and the Clausens. All hype, little production in the W column.

Apparently he doesn't consider Tim Brewster's methods "national"

Not sure if this is what you meant, but Tim Brewster (almost inexplicably) stuck with Weber through thick and thin even though he didn't recruit him, and he had recruited a 4-star.

That is exactly what I meant.
If brewster would have been like all the other coaches, he may still have a job (on the potential of a young QB alone).

His brother Chris hardly played in two years at Furman. He threw a total of 14 passes there.
