Target Center or Williams Arena? All HS First-Teamers including Tyus pick Tgt Center

You talk about a lot of towns up north, but I'm from south of the cities and recently graduated from HS. Trust me, the kids down here would rather play at Target Center. You're just one of those people that considers my area not part of out-state, but it definitely is.

What, Lakeville?

So when I tell you that the outstate kids would rather play in Williams Arena than the Target Center you can take that to the bank
No, we can take to the bank that the kids who told you they wanted to do so did in fact want to play in Williams. Are we also supposed to believe that your experiences in your area (which weren't with all the kids) also apply to Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, Thief River Falls, Hibbing, Staples, and on and on and on? Because that's a pretty broad, bold, pointless, and ultimately silly statement. Your experiences don't even come close to being a representative sample that would let you make that sort of statement with any certainty.

The same is true of zambam. Or me, if I tried to use my experiences growing up in DL.

I was just using my experience as a counter example to Ruppert's blanket statement.

I know. I was simply making clear that my point would apply broadly and not just to him. Wasn't trying to call you out directly.

Been involved in games/tourney's in the above towns you mentioned either watching our kids play or coaching. Spent many a time in Bemidji, Staples, and Detroit Lakes all within two hours of Brainerd. If per chance we were able to take a poll I would feel comfortable of picking up the tab for dinner at Ivan's on the Bay in Brainerd for you and GoAUpher that kids would chose the Williams Arena format.

Once again, you are only considering your part of the state as out-state.

I don't think the question was given enough context. Some of them could've been thinking "Which has better popcorn: Target Center or Williams Arena?"

Who's got the better price?

Rupe, I never said they wouldn't. I'm saying that you have no basis to claim that they would, for sure (i.e. "take it to the bank"), do what you are saying.

Yes, it is pure conjecture on my part. Consider it a hunch, and in zanbam case, even in the southern part of the state.:)

i love how so many of you williams arena die hards act like someone is making fun of your children and you have to attempt to defend them(it). i would bet most kids across the state of minnesota would rather play at target center just because that is where the pros play. imo williams arena needs to go and we need to do something with a practice facility. williams is great when its full and rocking but when its not(which is most of the time) the place looks old and dirty. i dont care about the arenas, i want the program to be successful and if shiny new bells and whistles bring our program to prominence thats what i want. i dont care about holding on to a past that isnt real impressive

Some people like it, some don't. I happen to really like Wiliiams Arena. I like its rustic allure. I say keep Williams and renovate it. An arena that unique I still believe is an advantage. Some will disagree with me, but I have little interest in a run of the mill basketball facility.

Update the locker room, concourses and add a practice facility and we're good to go. No reason we can't get 20 more years out of it with updates, anyone asking for a full rebuild is asking for the undoable.

There is no right or wrong answer here, but I'm not surprised that the kids like the NBA arena. Not at all.

It's like buying a house. Do you want a older house in South Minneapolis with a bunch of character, but needs a bunch of work? Or do you want a bigger, newer house on a bigger lot in a subdivision somewhere in Maple Grove or Woodbury. Neither is right, neither is wrong, but there are certainly people on both sides of the argument.

I have been in the tear-it-down crowd for a while. Williams has had a good run. I know many people -- many of whom are in the 35-plus crowd -- love the place, but I think it is a recruiting liability.

So you want to tear down a shrine and put up a palace with all the best Koehler bathroom fictures yada, yada, yada. That is the curse of alot of younger folks today. "Tear it down, throw it away, I want something new that has no maint; I don't have time to deal with it" Maybe if the youngsters wouldn't spend half there time on twitter/facebook they wouldn't think that way. You can spit and polish the Barn with some updates and it will be just fine.

I take it you'd also like them to get off your lawn and turn down that loud popular music that they listen to? :)

Seriously, I love The Barn. And I am not in favor of tearing it down (I'd like them to investigate options for renovation first). But you're just sounding like a parody at this point.

The old girl is over 80 years old. Time to put her to rest.

If we were in the museum business I would say keep the Barn. Problem is we are in the sports entertainment business, time to keep up.

It wasn't that terribly long ago that my team got to state. (well maybe) Everybody made it a goal to play in Williams. That would've been huge! Instead the MSHSL, in their infinite wisdom, sent us up to Hibbing to play in damn hockey arena! Dream fulfilled...

I guess I'd take Target Center over that. But at least the floor said "Home of Kevin McHale" on it!
