Tailgating????

I have no news, but highly doubt the U would allow that
 

- No idea how the U is going to handle it for lots that they own/control.
- East River Flats is a city of Mpls park. But they tried to kill tailgating there last year, before relenting.
- Not sure who has say for the fairgrounds lots.

One "good" (?) point is that no fans will be going to the stadium. So they don't need to provide transportation. But also means people might forget to sober up, before having to leave!
 




Even stadiums where they have fewer fans ... are banning tailgating.

I can't imagine the U will be ok with tailgating. They don't want to have to do crowd control when they're worried about losses anyhow...
 

We will definitely be tailgating at our house with our normal crew. Might have to try and figure out how to project the game on the side of the house.... Project for this weekend :unsure:

My neighbors just put TVs up in their garage.
 

Probably going to have to think like the French Underground in WW2, or bootleggers with speakeasies in the 30s.

Passwords, abandoned buildings, and of course listening to the wireless for the games.

I can imagine one scenario...

"That's another Gopher's first down on a 16-yard carry by Ibrahim. Ball on the Wisconsin 2 yard line. Gophers 34 Wisconsin 13 with 25 seconds to go in the game." The Axe is at the opposite goalpost...

Most of the neighbors have them on wall mounts that are easy to take down or put up come fall, winter.

Were there A & P stores here? Growing up in the 60s in Atlanta, A & P stores were dominant while Piggly Wiggly stores were in the larger more rural cities. Kroger moved in during the 70s and remained dominant for some time.

On Wednesday, the Big Ten announced it was reversing course and playing football this fall with plans to start playing the weekend of October 24th. While there will be games there will be few fans, if any, in the stadiums to watch the games.

A & P doesn't ring a bell. We had Red Owl and Piggly Wiggly and Holiday Super Stores when I was very young (grew up in NE Mpls). Piggly left first. Red Owl lasted a bit longer and Holiday went back to just being gas stations. Super Value and Cub seemed to take over.
 

It was mostly Cub, and also some Rainbow's for a while.

Now, everyone and their mother sells groceries. Cub is still here. Hyvee came in. Walmart and Target sell grocery. Bunch of "little" stores: Trader Joes, Aldi, Fresh Thyme, and Co-ops. Whole Foods (with Amazon delivery).
 

Is anyone going to attempt to tailgate in public?

I always thought the East River Flats was a great spot. But normally you can't drink in city parks. Tailgating had to be a special thing. I guess if you tried to do it, the park patrol would shut you down pretty fast.
 

After Rainbow i.e. Roundy's gave up, Cub got lazy. Their prices got high and their stores got dingy Hence Hy-Vee going hard in the paint the last few years.

IIRC the Flats was something that started during the Vikings' stay at the New Brickhouse, as an attempt by the Park Board to get in on the craze. The MPRB has more important things to worry about right now.

Don't forget Country Club and Super Value and those old Holiday stores were great.
