I like this kid a lot. Hard nose, aggressive, athletic and attacks the paint.

Is he a true senior or could he come back another season?

5th year Senior this year. Won't be coming back in 2022 unfortunately.

I'm not sure that's true.

I believe this is Sutherlin's fourth year of playing: two at a junior college, one at New Hampshire, sat out last season, playing this season. He should have the optional 5th year left awarded to players during the pandemic. I hope he takes it.

I believe Ogele also has an optional year left after this season as one previous season was cut way short due to an injury.

This is the 5th year of playing for Willis, Loewe, Stevens, and Daniels I believe so they cannot play another season. I think Curry technically could play another season due to his injury years but I doubt that he would choose to do so as that would be his 7th year.

Unless we get to see Ogele play and he blows us away with skill and athleticism, I’m out on wanting him here next year lol. Maybe he’s a good practice guy idk.

Gonna have a whole new crop of guards/shooters to pair with Battle next year. I for one am excited to watch this squad battle, but also excited to watch the transfer portal chaos unfold again.

I'm pretty sure he's done after this year. The 2020-21 season didn't count for eligibility but that was the year he didn't play anyways. This year is his 4th non Covid season actually playing.

Curry cannot play another year. You don’t get multiple exceptions for injury years.

If he was supposed to be a Senior last year, why would he get 2 additional years?

I think he can.

2016-17: Played
2017-18: Injury
2018-19: Played
2019-20: Injury
2020-21: Played (COVID)
2021-22: Played

You can classify 17-18 and 19-20 as regular redshirt and medical redshirt years. The COVID exception gives an extra year of eligibility, so he might be able to return next year. It probably depends on the fine print of the medical redshirt and the COVID year.

But he was injured during that year, correct? My understanding is that players were given an option of playing an extra year. If the rule was interpreted that way, that would mean that players who played in 2020-21 would get a 5th year of eligibility but players who were injured that year would be limited to 4 years of eligibility. Doesn't seem quite fair.

I guess my understanding was that you just don't count 2020-21 as a season. Just look at eligibility as if it never happened. You could be right, I don't know.

Edit: The link above shows you are probably right.

If he can play again next year (I'm pretty sure he can if he wants), I'd welcome him with open arms.

On one of the broadcasts, think it was against Princeton, they also claimed he (Curry) could come back for one more year.

So he did have another year available? I know it was debated a ton and his wording would certainly indicate it was a possibility.

Best of luck to him, hopefully it works out. He was a nice addition to the team during his one year here.

I guess it's worth it for the scouting reports? Have to imagine his professional future is abroad.
Bigs can’t make it in the NBA if they can’t shoot. A guard that can’t shoot? No chance.

He was one of my favorite players to watch this year. Gotta imagine this is just for the exposure/scouting feedback before he tries to head international.

I think he would have been a valuable 6th or 7th man next year. Tough. Excellent D. Experience.

I always maintained that he had pretty good grounds for petitioning for another year but he's been in school five years already and maybe just didn't want another one. Could also be that Johnson didn't particularly want to give him another year. I liked him but his game was more of an undersized 3 or 4 rather than a 2. In the league that New Hampshire is in, possibly most of the bigs either aren't that big or are stiffs so he could rack up a lot of rebounds and score inside more often than in this league.

With the incoming freshman class, an improved front court, and a few new transfers at guard, it's likely Sutherland would see a big decrease in PT next season.

Westbrick. Honestly can Ja Morant shoot? Granted they are explosive athletes.
Ja Morant was a 34% shooter from 3 this last year and was a 36% shooter his last year on college, on over 4 attempts a game each season. Sutherlin was 3 for 13 on the SEASON from 3. Huge difference between not being a great shooter like Morant and being a guy that teams literally don’t need to guard outside of the paint like Sutherlin was.

Did he?

This is a head scratcher. He did some nice things and made some great plays, but he's nowhere near being an NBA prospect. I hope he does catch on somewhere professionally. Will definitely miss him.

Low level European, maybe South America but I haven’t seen many go that direction in recent years.
