Kent was basically passing along info that the U of M ticket office has distributed to the media over the last couple days. In essence it reinforces the TCF Bank Stadium and Gophers sports policy that a valid U-Card ID MUST accompany any student ticket being presented this Saturday and at all future home games. Any person presenting a student ticket at any gate this Saturday without an accompanying and VALID U-Card ID will be turned away.

This noted to the media from the ticket office was driven by the fact that the ticket office had been hearing third-person reports of student tickets being sold to non-students for the Gophers vs. Becky game as well as other future games and they wanted to "nip that practice in the bud" ahead of time.

I applaud the U of M ticket office for reinforcing this important policy that comes with the purchase and use of subsidized student tickets.

damn right better dead than a red student section.

I think I speak on behalf of a lot of people when I say I'm hoping that they follow up on these threats/promises/policies, but until I see (or in this case, hear from students) that those at Gate C were enforcing this vigorously, I'm not holding my breath.

There has certainly been a bigger push from the athletic dept. to get this information widely distributed. This could mean that they're finally going to aggressively uphold this rule, or it could also be an attempt to scare away those who are trying to cheat the system in an attempt to drive away those who might attempt to skirt the rule rather than actually going through the headaches (hiring more staff, slower entry for students, etc.) that might come with actually enforcing it as it's written. I definitely hope it's the former.

my guess is that they wouldn't be distributing these talking points to the media if they didn't intend to follow through on them this saturday, etc.

IIRC, distributing the student ticket policy and what the reprecussions will be for not following it to the "mainstream" media outlets is not something that the U of M ticket office has done before.

I imagine the student section will have bigger sections of empty benches than it did for the first two games. I hate seeing those large gaps, but I'll smile thinking of the Bucky fans left out on the street with their high-priced tickets that they can't use.

I'd rather see that student section completely empty, rather than populated by a bunch of polyester red clad jackasses from Chippewa Falls or wherever.

I think the U should be commended for making such efforts to publicize this. As Bronko said, they have not done this before - and it's really nice of them to let everyone know of the policy, instead of having people coming to the gate and then getting turned away.

mark rosen also reported this story on tonight's WCCO 4 10PM newscast

it has been reported in the mpls star tribune and on one of the largest news stations in minneapolis. i take that to mean that the U of M is serious about the policy of checking and verifying a U-Card picture ID along with any student ticket presented at any gate this saturday.

Several badgers are reporting on buckyville that they have gotten U cards from similar looking U students and are planning on wearing gold shirts to enter the student section and then strip down to red shirts after getting in.

I fully expect any good Minnesota student to give these *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#bags the worst football experience they have ever seen in thier entire lives....if there isn't pizza being chucked...I'll be sorely disappointed.

I have to say, I'm willing to tip my cap to anyone willing to go this far to get into a rival's student section. I could never, ever, ever wear Badger red for any amount of time at Camp Randall. So here's to you, bastard Sconnie children! I hope you enjoy that delicious Palermo's sauce. :)

Chem E Gopher will be on duty

Just like at the basketball game.

that would be called "fishing" my friend......and it appears they have caught a big one! ;)

p.s. don't believe for a second their stories about getting U cards from "similar looking students". it is a huge pile of B.S. don't take the bait.

Even if they do get in, there will be a very small number of them. What are a few badgers going to do against 50,000 gopher fans?

Some serious B.S., I can't even imagine the amount of work/idiocy that would have to go behind a large group getting similar looking student's U cards just to get into the game.

The best will be the U students that come and root for the Badgers. Will be great seeing red sprinkled in the student section. Don't forget to where your gold. I want an accurate count of Badgers fans in attendance. I expect Bronko to be counting.
