Student Section Entrance

I'm pretty sure student tickets will only be accepted at the student entrance. In fact, it's been a few years but isn't that how it worked at the dome?

On the other note, I also don't see the strict photo checks actually happening. Too many students and too few ticket takers to make that happen. Same thing with the breathalyzers...I have to think it'll only be the people who are way, way beyond buzzed that get stopped.

The way I read it was that the breathalyzers were used on folks already cited with underage drinking or public intoxication at TCF. If that happens your U card gets flagged in the system and the next game you went to you get pulled out of line after you swipe your ID (think secondary screening at the airport). Its at that point that you would have to prove your sobriety.

To me it didn't sound like they were planning to randomly breathalyze anyone.

Yeah, I know that, but I'm saying couldn't you buy any ticket for somewhere else in the stadium and find your way to the student section?

Well sure, assuming the ushers don't care.

I would imagine they would do it similar to the dome. The ushers actually did check the tickets on the way in to the stairs leading down to the seats. This sort of kept students in the seats their ticket corresponded to and kept non-students out. They were fairly diligent, and I would imagine with the new way of entering for students being more stringent they would be just as, if not more, tight to the rules. One thing they can't stop happening is 2 people going in to the bleacher area, one coming back out with more than one ticket, giving it to non-students, then all re-entering. However, if a dispute actually arises (which it will given the new-ness of the stadium and tighter rules) with people not being where they should in the student section, I'm sure it will be solved fairly easily.

Anybody hear anything about the entrance policy for students at the games? I'm still wondering if there's going to be an i.d. scan when you enter.

pretty sure i have heard that the answers to that question is yes. they will have student id scanning equipment at the gates to verify the student ticket users are legit u of m students

I'm actually pretty sure the answer is NO. The rumor is they didn't acquire the technology so they won't be swiping this year. They will however breathalize students who appear intoxicated and act accordingly with that. I'd be willing to bet money that you can get in if you have a student ID.

care to quote a legit "source" for your rumor?

i would be highly surprised if they didn't aquire the necessary technology considering swiping student IDs has been their plan all along for managing student season ticket use in the football stadium. that would have given them ample time to order them. unless of course it was a "budget" thing. but, i would be surprised by that too. if anything they should have the "budget" now (while the paint is still drying on a brand new place) to aquire that type of stuff as opposed to in the future when new expenditures such as this would likely be scrutinized more closely.

not trying to hate on you personally, but right now i am not putting too much "weight" on the speculation you may have heard.

at the very minimum you are right about one thing though. swiping technology this year or not THEY WILL BE closely checking u of m student id's that are presented with a u of m student ticket to make sure they match. for highly subsidized student tickets they should do no less.

Not intending to take lightly what you said, Bronko, but I don't think anyone should put much "weight" on ANY speculation, including yours.

We'll just have to see what happens, but I will guarantee that if they try to pull what they did for student season tix in hockey, where the name of the student on the ticket had to match their ID, then there will be a BIG, BIG outcry. A lot of students flipped out with hockey because with the method there was no way anyone else could use their ticket in case they couldn't make a game.

I think if the department learned anything, which I think they did considering they changed that policy and allowed anyone with a U card to use a ticket, then I think they will use the policy that the hockey program ended up using. This way students with a photo ID U card can use their buddy's ticket and not end up with a noticeable amount of empty seats in the bleachers.

Either way, I think we're all in agreement that we hope we can keep out the opposing fans and older folks trying to see a game the sneaky way but also allow true students to use a friend's season ticket pass and not compromise the number of bodies in the stands.:)

I have heard from low-level employees in the Gopher Sports Marketing office that the football student ticket policy will be very similar to the student ticket policy for hockey at Mariucci. Anybody who had someone else's ticket had to go to the front ticket office to get a one-time voucher for entry. At the front window they required the u-card of the person who's name was on the ticket in order to get the voucher. Like I said, however, this was from a couple low-level employees and should maybe not be taken with a grain of salt so much as a salt lick. Either way, I'm a student and am looking forward to using my final year of free tickets (Yay band!).

On a side note, I am a long time Gopher fan and Minnesota native and somehow only just discovered this amazing site. I look forward to many (hopefully) insightful and humorous conversations with fellow Gophers. Ski-U-Mah!

So, they didn't even look at my id. Was this the same for everyone else? They could have been just overwhelmed when I was entering.

I had several friends who also said their ID's weren't even glanced at around kick-off time.

same here, i gave them my ticket and had my id in my other hand and they never even asked for it.
