Stricklin says Mullen “likely” to get new deal that would last through 2014

LOL! LOL! LOL!

I'm sticking with Urban Meyer. The way this is going - who knows I might be right :)

Another coach making some money because of our search for a new coach. TCU coach got a nice raise last time around. I bet all coaches want the U to be interested in hiring them.

Yep, these agents & coaches are sure using this opening to their advantage. Mason used to do it too when he'd stick his name out there for every job that came open.

Coaches should actually throw interested schools a little piece of the action if they can leverage a new contract out of the deal!

Four year deal max is a problem for MSU

In an environment where coaches get canned after one or two down years, they look for tenure-like positions of perhaps up to 8 years. Its nuts, but I think the U or some other institution will offer that to Mullen and he would have to give it serious thought.

Can MSU realistically pay more than the U could?

He only gets 250k from the university, the rest of his salary comes from something called "Bulldog Foundation". So the question becomes, how deep are the pockets of this foundation?

Miss State wasn't exactly terrible when Mullen took over...

Huh? They went 10-30 in the SEC under Croom. They got lucky and won 8 games in 2007 because their non-con included Gardner-Webb, UAB, and Tulane.

I don't think it looks like Mullen is the guy. If it was, I think he'd be on his way up here by now instead of renegotiating his contract. (I would like to believe we're further along with whoever we're after.) With all the false information out there, it's difficult to tell what is really going on, but I'm really beginning to think it's going to be someone bigger than Mullen.

So, if there is a candidate from Mississippi and it's not Houston Nutt, Larry Fedora, or Dan Mullen could it be that Ole Miss assistant orginally from Minnesota?

I don't put the liklihood very high that Mullen is the guy, but I really think that IF he is the guy his negotiations would be the trickiest.

For example, unlike our other candidates, Mullen is coming off of success at a BCS school, therefore he would likely command a higher salary. Additionally, because he left MSU, we would have to negotiate a pretty expensive buyout if he wanted to flee. His assistants are also likely to command much higher salaries than a mid major coach. Now, all of that stuff would take much longer to negotiate than say a Brady Hoke.

Also, he probably isn't as eager as a mid major guy to get a new job because he is already in the big time. Therefore, it will likely be a negotiation that would go back and forth (between MSU and Minnesota) and it would come down to money, years, buyout, etc. These things make the contract much more complicated. I would imagine that a contract for Calhoun would be pretty standard.

Just trying to justify the disappointment should he not get the job, lol...
