per Amelia:

Minnesota had better shore up what it can in the first two bouts of the regular season. We’re still learning about the 2015-16 Gophers, but they can’t afford to also be in self-discovery mode for too much longer.

On that note, three thoughts from what we saw in the preseason:

Rebounding could be this team’s downfall.
Dupree McBrayer has been quietly good.
Carlos Morris is still Carlos Morris.

Go Gophers!!

I hate doing this, but she is terrible.

"Butler which can do the fast-paced, guard-oriented thing better than Minnesota." - Butler finished 246th last year in adjusted tempo per kenpom, Minnesota 44th (thats not 100% indicitive to guard play, but certainly rules out they are running a more fast paced offense than us) unless they take a HUGE leap in style this year this is a terrible take.

"With so many veterans to scrutinize" - it's almost impossible to have LESS veterans to scrutinize this year.

Bad Carlos? I thought we were all amazed that both games showcased good Carlos. At the very least, the good Carlos game we haven't ever seen to that level of "good". Another interesting point to make with so much else to write about.

It's almost as if she's typing just to hear the key's make noise.

she also wrote this: But although Pitino and the rest of the Gophers swear Konate has taken big leaps in the offseason, he averaged just 2.1 rebounds a game in almost nine rebounds a game. Even if he triples his production, it’s hard to argue it will be enough.

wait!what?

Thanks... First lets say this, I'm not an english major and my writing skills suck as$... But I don't get paid to do so. She does.

Thats a terribly written thought.

I have always thought that she is a bad beat writer, and I keep mentioning it on this forum. Most people rip on me for it but I've noticed it for years. With that being said, you realize that she just meant to say "2.1 rebounds a game in almost nine minutes a game.".... right? No need to pick on typos/editing.

putting the quality of writing aside, I agree with the general premise of the article. This season is a mystery waiting to unfold. I can't remember going into a season where I knew less about what to expect. This team could win 20 games or 5 games, and neither result would surprise me. it's hard to be surprised when you have no clue what's going to happen.

When you write for a living it should be perfect.

Well since Konate's minutes will triple he probably be in the 6 to 8 range for boards per game, hopefully he can get some blocks and be a rim stopper. He has a decent offensive game. Remember some nice jumpers he hit last year that guys like Colt, EE, Mbakwe and Mo could never hit. They'll be growing pains with him and Gaston but they're athletic. I remember in the game at Wisconsin there was on a foul on the play so it didn't count, but Gaston had a really nice spin move to the basket from the Right wing and finished with his left. I remember thinking haven't seen a gopher big do that in awhile

If Konate's rebounding numbers do triple, as Amelia suggests, that 6.3 rebounds per game would have put him tied for 11th in the Big Ten in rebounds per game last year. It's hard to argue that we would expect more out of a sophomore that seemingly is getting better and better. Only 4 players averaged 7 or more rebounds per game last season. In comparison, Nigel Hayes averaged 6.4 rebounds per game in 32.9 minutes per game.

Go Gophers!!

Speaking of Konate, saw him on campus, still walking with a boot. Precautionary, I know, but worth noting 3 days in advance of the first game that counts.

1- nobody's perfect and 2- it's a blogggggggg. C'mon.

Rip on her viewpoints, because she writes for a living and those should be a lot better.

I'm not expecting perfection. I'm expecting her to consistently write like someone who has a degree, not someone who is working on their degree. I'm expecting the strib to edit and show some sort of professionalism. Go tell her it's a blogg, she gets pretty defensive on that point.

The strib hires bad writers . Why? Can think of a few possible reasons. She doesn't seem to like it here anyway. Maybe she should try getting a job covering her beloved North Carolina. lol Good luck with that. At least she is not Myron. I like Marcus Fuller. He does a good job and you can tell he enjoys what he is doing.

I think it's been said many times on this site that editors usually pick the headline, so whatever.

But come one Strib.... we have like 16 freshman and new faces on the roster, the season hasn't even started and the big revealing headline is that we are still learning about the team?

Duh...

That article has such a bizarre tone and it was filled with such weird mistakes (as people pointed out). For articles like this that don't require sources, I'm pretty sure at least a quarter of us could write better ones. At the very least, more accurate. All non-short articles of hers that aren't filled with quotes always have incorrect facts and typos or punctuation errors.

I would be extremely surprised if they won 20 games (in the regular season) and almost as surprised if they won only 5.

The strib hires bad writers . Why?

Possibly because they don't pay them very much. In her case, she may have been chosen as much for her photogenic qualities than anything else. Look at the sideline sports reporters on TV and the practice appears pretty prevalent.

She's right about one aspect...............if our rebounding doesn't improve, it's going to be a very long season indeed. I was very impressed with Indiana, Michigan St. Ohio St and looking forward to watching Maryland this Friday. Nebraska is small but pretty fast especially so with the addition of Morrow and Webster.

Why shouldn't she be criticized for egregious grammar and spelling errors? As other's have said, she's a professional. Go read the Daily Gopher sbnation blog, their amateur writers are able to string together coherent, factually correct articles with proper grammar. Why can't Amelia/the Strib? Because they they don't give a rip about the bball team and don't take pride in their work.
