"You look around the country; Les Miles loses two games [at LSU] — he's gone," Dean Johnson said. "Charlie Strong loses to Kansas, he's packing his bags. I don't think we exactly do it that way in Minnesota. We take our time. We're thoughtful. We want to be strategic and look at the grand picture of our athletic department and our coaches, their values, but most importantly our student-athletes.
"When all is said and done, stability is a good thing. Stability in any program — and yes, with appropriate adjustments — but you start changing out personnel, you've got these players who have to get to know new coaches. So I err on the side of stability."
Yes, an awesome job has been done academically with the football team. But elevating the Gopher on field performance in football, over his time as a regent, above that of LSU and Texas and saying we do it more wisely is arrogant or condescending imo. The standings, the rankings, the national championships don't put us in that discussion in the last 30 years. For him to think we have been comparable is flawed imo
Just say at Minnesota we have different values than some other universities. Don't denigrate how someone else with more success on the field does it. That's what I didn't like. Not crazy about the stability comment either
if 6 and 8 wins is acceptable.
Also, not too sure as AD I'd appreciate him popping off about his opinion on my decision before I make it. Add it all up I got arrogance out of his comments, in part because he thinks he needs his voice to be heard when it's not his decision. He can communicate his feelings to the AD privately imo
