STrib: Time for Gophers to flip the script against Minnesota-born Badgers

Direct correlation to the GangleGate debacle and Wisconsin infiltrating the eastern suburbs to poach players. We are still paying the price, and by today's standards, the scandle was lame as hell.
Clem never lost a home game to Wisconsin. Even his crappy teams his first two seasons won at home vs the Badgers

We play in Madison tomorrow and this is the first chatter I've seen about the game, anywhere.

Apathy is far worse than anger.
Barriero, on KFAN, spent about ten minutes on the topic "Do the Gophers even have a Men's Basketball team?" yesterday in his second hour. ,

It was basically:

Has the Gopher MBB team done anything, this season? No.
Has the Gopher MBB team done anything remarkable in the last few years? No.
What can we do about it? *shrug* I don't know.
Maybe they should shut the program down? We gotta go to commercial.

I see we have the cloud-yeller generation here. NBC paid a ton of $ to the conference. That helps the school more than the refusal to pay $10 a month hurts. This ain’t going back.

To clarify, I am not complaining about the situation at all. I get it. It's also not about the cost, I can certainly handle that.

As I said, the barrier is...I don't want to.

Not worth the time and effort for the programming they provide as a whole, not to mention the state of affairs of the Gopher basketball program. Tonight for example, I won't even be home to watch the game, but I would have DVRd and watched later. I'll record the Texas-Ohio St game instead and watch that when I get home.

I did jump through the hoops previously to sign up for Peacock for a Gopher-Notre Dame hockey game (though it was a Free trial). That was fine. The ends justified the means.

Tonight's Gopher-Badger basketball game is just not worth the time and effort (for me). Anyone else, knock your socks off.

The same philosophy will apply to tomorrow's Steelers-Ravens Playoff game. It won't be on my TV, because...I don't want to.

I'll live. Plenty of other stuff to consume my time. No complaints whatsoever. Big 10/Gophers get paid, but I'll divert my attention elsewhere. I'm good.

If there happened to be a Gopher Football road game of interest on Peacock only, I would likely re-evaluate status as a non-subscriber.

Haha I'm annoyed by the need for so many different streaming services, but the Peacock bitching always gets me.

It's $10/month. And for a pretty quality service too (Big Ten football/hoops, EPL, golf, NFL, more).

Of all the streaming services, Peacock is the best value for the $ and has the best production quality. I often watch NBC games on their because the picture quality is for some reason better than through DirecTV or even OTA antenna.

Has anyone on this thread actually complained about the $10/month cost?

Yes, I have. Cable is expensive enough due to sports contracts so asking me to shell out any more is out of the question.
Which is also a valid justification in my book, just not my reason for avoiding re-signing up for Peacock.

Apologies, I did not see any of your posts on this thread prior.

Do you have Peacock? You can complain about having to pay for it, but it's the same as NBC-level production - same announcers and studio hosts and everything.

Are you confusing it with BTN+, which is truly horrible?
It's equivalent to NBC. people would have no problem with it if the games were nationally televised instead of on Streaming

I do wonder if the quality to NBC will still be there in the months following with Peacock (and a whole slew of other cable networks) being spun off from the parent company.

What happens in general with the programming and bundles is a major question mark.

Even in an Olympic year Peacock is still lost hundreds of millions ($436 M to be exact) of dollars and their CEO has stepped down this week.

Apologies for hijacking this thread from the upcoming Gopher-Badger game into a Peacock discussion. I meant it originally as a 1-off pithy comment about the network and got sucked in to a larger discussion more suitable for the Off Topic board.

Am I missing something? Lakeville is more south, but it’s pretty east. But point taken - Davison was a westsider and Jordan Taylor went to BSM.
When I wrote "eastern" I had Lakeville (SE), Eagan and Eastview in mind, totally forgetting about BSM and Maple Grove. Replace eastern with "metro".

Neither did Musselman or Dutcher—if memory serves the only home game lost to the Badgers from 1970 to 1999 was in 1986 with interim coach Jimmy Williams. Clem’s first Big Ten game was a Saturday afternoon game against the Badgers which the late Kim Zurcher won with a layup at the buzzer. There were some great games played between Steve Yoder and Clem Haskins’ teams.

So here you have two teams that got hit hard by portal losses and graduation/going to the NBA. They both lost 3 starters: a big man (Payne/Wahl), a PG (Hawkins/Hepburn) and a scoring wing (Christie/Storr). In terms of production, I'd argue UW lost even a little bit more. And of the remaining returning starters (Mitchell/Garcia & Klesmit/Crowl), individually, you might say it's a wash or even a slight advantage to MN.

How is it that Wisconsin is succeeding yet again while the Gophers languish?

The difference is that 1) UW had some developmental talent in guys like Winter and Blackwell who have stepped up, and 2) they located Tonje in the portal - possibly lucky, but they did it the year before with Storr, too. They also have a coach, not just a collector of talent.

MN? Poor Ben. it's not his fault, I tell ya,

Just an unlucky bastard is all.

UPDATE

We did not flip the script.

Wisconsin is currently a top 10 offense and the Gopher.defense is in the 120s. It’s not a flipped script that’s needed so much as it is defying the established statistical precedence. It does happen, but not that often.

One thing that might help is that Klesmit rolled an ankle against Rutgers and didn’t return. If he can’t go, that’s 30 minutes they have to replace.
Established statistical precedence undefied.

I think a big part of this is the sheer size of the league currently. BTN is the only channel that is dedicated to Big Ten sports but even they have some obligation to show things other than men's basketball in the winter. So, if you want to see every conference game televised, you're going to need more channels than we had in the past to do that.

Steve Yoder somehow lasted 10 seasons at Wisconsin, going 50-130 (28%) in Big Ten games.

If the Gophers win their next 4 games, Ben will surpass Steve Yoder's win %.
LOL! IF the Gophers win their next 4 games.

Even the hapless George (gone after one season) Hanson managed to beat Badgers. He did that with the help of Ollie Shannon, who scored a school record-tying 42 points. Of course, he took 42 shots! https://www.startribune.com/bonus-r...ongs-among-u-s-notable-juco-players/240695211
