Strib: Stollings Receives a Big Raise at Texas Tech.

Maybe Marlene should take a hint from the men's team and stress defense.

Glad she got the raise. That confirms that she won't be seen around here again. She is into money not coaching.

Going to a recruiting hotbed State - you still have to be a good recruiter. There is definitely discontent down yonder with Coach Stollings.

It doesn't help when you fired a beloved former TTU star Erin Grant who would have help recruiting in Texas. She is burning under the hot Texas sun in Lubbock amidst the tumbleweed.

Michigan State assistant Alysiah Bond joins Stollings at Texas Tech.
Alysiah Bond, a highly respected coach with national recruiting ties, officially joined the Texas Tech program as an assistant coach on April 22, 2019.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alysiah to the Texas Tech family. Alysiah is a proven winner who has worked alongside some of the best in women’s basketball including the late Pat Summit at Tennessee,” Stollings said. “She has one of the most infectious personalities in coaching and brings an extraordinary ability to build relationships and elevate student athletes both on and off the court. Her decision to come to Texas Tech will enhance the future of our program.”

As a seasoned veteran, Bond joins the staff after four seasons at Michigan State where she helped the Spartans to three NCAA appearances and a Top 25 ranking three of the four years. During her time in East Lansing, Mich., Bond recruited one McDonald’s All-American and a Top 10 recruiting class. Bond coached a Top 10 WNBA draft pick in Tori Jankoska.

Stollings also added another veteran assistant, Malikah Willis, who played at Iowa for C Vivian Stringer.

Lady Raider Basketball Head Coach Marlene Stollings has announced that Malikah Willis will join the coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Willis brings more than 18 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Lady Raiders including eight years at the BCS level with four of those years at Big 12 rival West Virginia.

"We are incredibly excited to add Malikah to our Texas Tech family. Her background in recruiting top notch talent and developing student athletes both on and off the court has been a staple throughout her career," Head Coach Marlene Stollings said. "Malikah has extensive international ties and has helped produce multiple WNBA draft picks. She is a tremendous asset to our Lady Raider program."

A seasoned recruiter, Willis has had seven recruiting classes in the Top 25, including four while at West Virginia and three at Georgia Tech. She has signed two McDonald's All-American and coached 14 student-athletes to all-conference honors during her time in the Big East, Big 12 and ACC. In addition, Willis has coached five WNBA draft picks.

Texas Tech now up to 8 transfers out of the program at the end of the season. Even by the standards of some-turmoil-with-a-new-coach, that is a mighty big number
