STrib profile on Flip...former Gopher talks return to coaching, recruiting & more

Flip can recruit and develop the 3 and 4 star recruits that are open to coming to Minnesota. He knows offense, he knows the NBA, and he will be a long term solution at Minnesota.
A youg guy like Shaka Smart if he has success, will be gone in 2 years. If a young coach such as Shaka Smart does not have success, he will go the way of Dan Monson and Tommy Armaker.

Welcome Flip!

Excuse my ignorance, is Lynch coaching anywhere right now?

Nope...not sure what he's doing right now, but I play softball against him and one of my buddies on the team coaches at Jefferson so I can get the lowdown if needed. By the way, he hits some of the most majestic home runs I've ever seen at these fields. Absolute bombs. No arm, but he still covers a lot of ground in left center.

well based on his time at the u there is a much greater likelihood that he recruited mitch lee, george williams, todd alexander and the boys than burton, coffey, shik, and crew. so he does have that going for him.

Well, based on that timeline, it's more likely that the last time Flip spoke to a prospect was when he was talking to the players PARENT about coming to "The U" than a contemporary. Flip has absolutely no idea on how the recruiting game is played these days. He may have confidence that he does, or that he can pick it up, but it's not a one week course that he can just sign up for, add water, and stir.

"absolutely no idea" ??? And how do you know this? You sound so incredibly certain? People who speak with such authority about things that they in reality do not know anything about, are what some might call fools.

Oh, and excuse me if you have had long conversations with Flip recently about all of this and can say from first hand knowledge, and with absolute certainty, claim that you do in fact know what you are talking about. If that is the case, then I apologize for even hinting at the idea that someone might consider you a fool.

Glen Taylor already said Khan (BOOOOO!!) will be sticking around most likely if he still owns the team which I think he will at least for another season. We'll have to see how that him buying part of the team thing goes. Glen said there were a couple new groups interested so Flip's group may not even be the highest bidder. It's pretty obvious I want Flip to coach this team isn't it? :)
