per the STrib:

Jordan Murphy shyly looked up at reporters as they entered the locker room and made a beeline for his chair. He seemed more than a little embarrassed that we wanted to talk to him first.

For the moment, the dominant forward that had wowed a crowd of 9,570 in Minnesota’s first exhibition game was gone. Murphy was a freshman again, and one with no real off-court ego to be seen.

“I was really nervous at the beginning,” he said. “I think I’m still nervous now, even after the game. I still feel the effects of it.”

“Jordan Murphy showed you how good he can become,” Pitino said. “I thought he was really good when we started throwing him the ball in the post… he can hit the three but he’s really good on the block. So we need to look at him more often than we did …He’s got potential in my mind to be a very good freshman, and I’m very excited about him.”

Go Gophers!!

Getting him late in the recruiting process could end up being a pivotal moment for this program.

9,570, not bad for a 4PM exhibition on a Sunday Afternoon vs Crookston. Wonder how the crowd Friday night will be?

LOL! I was there. I am guessing there were actually about 1,500 in attendance. It was the worst crowd I've ever seen for an exhibition.

Yes, 9,570 nowhere near actual butts in seats. A friendly neighborhood gathering yesterday afternoon. Almost saw as many Crookston fans as Gopher fans.

Why such a disparity though? Do season ticket holders get tickets to these games, and then most of them decide not to go?

Yes.

I usually go to the first exhibition to get first look at new players, then skip the second one. Just not the same when the games don't count. At least the cupcakes (vs. DI opponents) in November-December count, for better or worse.

I was gonna say the same thing. That number was clearly tickets sold, which included mostly season ticket holders who didn't find a scrimmage against a D2 team to be worth it. I wouldn't expect Amelia to notice the discrepancy. I would've gone (first time missing in a decade since I moved recently) but I don't blame others for not attending. I think it's complete crap that we have to pay for those games as season ticket holders.

I see a little Branden Dawson in him, with better range. Both active undersized power forwards. I'm optimistic.
