Some large school donors, however, were not unhappy about Teague’s departure.

“He was supposed to be a fundraiser,” said Dick Ames, the board chairman at Ames Construction and a financial contributor to the athletic village project. “Why wouldn’t they hire somebody in-state [instead of Teague who] could open the doors to some of those [local] Fortune 500 companies?

“In fact, if [the school] came to me, I might give them a little bit more after he’s gone than I would before.”

Ames said the school’s use of Lou Nanne, the former Gopher and longtime local hockey executive, to help lead the fundraising drive was meant as a message. “Why would they have Lou come on there?” Ames asked. “It wasn’t going very good.”

Go Gophers!!

Well that's very interesting.

Teague was smart enough to start to tap into all the corporate money in town instead of being a cheerleader at women's sporting events. Welcome to the real world of big time athletics. It is all about money and resources. If Ames did not like him and will now give more coin that is great, but he got this vital program off the ground and should be praised for that.

This guy sounds like he sits in the lower section of the Barn in his gold crew neck sweatshirt, smirking when things go poorly, but showing no emotion when things go well.

Is he dissing Nanne's involvement? I can't really comprehend his statement.

Agreed, but at the sametime there are plenty of Norwood Teague types in college athletics, the sad thing is it took the U this long to grab one.

No. The way I read it was if Teague was such a good fund raiser, why did they need to bring Sweet Lou in? Lou knows all the local guys (and pretty much everyone knows Lou). He's the key to the fund raising...

Lou Nanne for AD!

That is it exactly. Ames is saying that Teague could not connect with the local fortune 500 guys, and the U had to bring in Lou Nanne to provide a local angle to the fund-raising campaign. There is a whole parade of people dumping on Teague after the resignation - Mike Max, Sid, Reusse, etc have all come out and said Teague was not well-liked in the athletic department. Ames is the latest - and T. Denny Sanford also made a statement that indicated he was not impressed with Teague.

We have to give credit to Teague for having the nerve to be bold and push for a plan that will bring us up to the standards of B1G programs. We have always sold ourselves short in the past, and have had a defeatist attitude for decades. Now we can move past Teague and continue on.
