Gophers-Saint Louis play for WNIT title; Minnesota point guard Amaya Battle reaches new level

The Gophers women's basketball team has seen notable postseason growth, especially from Amaya Battle, entering the WNIT championship game vs. St. Louis.

By her own admission, Amaya Battle plays basketball with joy, on instinct.

In the moment.

There have been more than a few times this season, after she has made a key play at an important moment for the Gophers women's basketball team, when Battle will freely admit not even really remembering the play.

"When I'm out there, I'm just out there, hooping," Battle said Friday. "My mind is clear."

But the game, undeniably, is getting slower for the Gophers' sophomore point guard.

She’s been tremendous in the post season, they’ve all stepped up in fact. Maggie and Nia on defense, Mal’s rebounding and Harthas been really good in the post. GG has not been scoring as much but seems to hit a shot when we need one. Really excited for tomorrow’s game. Too bad about not finding a location in Minnesota to play.
