Here's an idea. As a benefit for season ticket holders getting gouged with "donation" fees; how about priority seating selection for
concerts? I'm not talking about being part of a Ticketmaster lottery one day before the general public sale. The higher the donation, the first choice you get on seats. Every $450-$1000 level donor gets the option to buy 2 concert seats before any other tickets are sold to any other sponsors. Certainly would entice me to keep my seats in the future.
 

I'm pretty sure some sort of early pre-sale was allowed when U2 came to town. I bought one good pair, then was able to score some GA seats later. Ended up with a nice chunk of change and my seats were essentially free.
 

Yet again, it's not a "donation". It's a donation.

Don't pay the price if you don't want the tickets. Simple. I don't get what people expect to gain by whining about this over and over again for the history of time.

Pretty sure this is already part of the deal, U2 tickets were available to season ticket holders early if I remember correctly.
 

I suggest that everyone who longs for the day when there were no "donation," "gouge" or "whatever" seats pause for a moment and recognize that there are now great TV (no scare quotes required) seats available to anyone not too cheap to buy a cable package. Or go to a bar. Or mooch off a friend.

Get over it. Gopher fans today have better options to watch their team than at any time in the history if the program.

I am lucky that at this point I can buy tickets and make a donation. If that changes, and I can only afford no donation seats, or no seats at all, I will still be lucky in that I will be able to watch my beloved Gophers on TV.

This is a great time to be a Gopher fan.

You get over it. Most avid Gopher fans like myself have no problem paying a "donation". We just don't appreciate being "gouged" and charged fees that aren't remotely commensurate with the past success of the program.

It is being characterized as a donation in order to preserve the 80% tax deductibility. Depending on your tax bracket, that is effectively a 0% to 40% discount on the cost of the donation. Yes, the donation is required is order to buy the tickets. It is a perfectly legal, well established practice. Arguing over what it is called won't change anything.

But maybe putting whatever we call it in "scare quotes" will. :)

Your fatal flaw is the "voluntarily transferred" and "right" parts. Go pay for your ticket cost only in a "donation" zone. See if they send you the ticket in August. Nice try, though.

So you're saying he will die because of this mischaracterization on a message board? That seems rather extreme. It could be you were just using a cliché, but with your affinity for accurate word use, I guess I just don't know what to think.
 

Like any donation, the organization will typically give some sort of reward. Just like donations give you a closer tailgate lot. Or at a benefit, the donation gives you tickets and a table to the event. Sometimes a gift bag. This is no different. If you donate, the organization gives you priority seating. That priority seating is now reserved for those who donate.

I know for U2 we were able to get them early but have not heard anything about the Stones tickets. I will give them credit years ago when they really treated the ST holders nice-- I think in the first few years of TCF we received the nice panoramic picture of the first game and we also received that nice Gopher Football book that was written by Ross Bernstein I believe.

Yes there was a presale then U2 cancelled the original date. Cannot recall if there was a second presale before the tickets went public.
 


Stones tickets went on pre-sale this morning for ticket holders!

Pretty sure there was only one presale. If my memory serves me correctly it was sold out before the original date was cancelled.

Do you remember if the presale for U2 was more exclusive than for the Stones? My gut tells me it was but I don't remember for sure.
 

Just as expected. "Presale" for STH was a farce. Tried to get tickets at 10am today and none available from the get go. Spoke to 2 other friends and they had the same result. No special treatment for Gopher ticket holders over local radio stations. Nice negotiating by the U once again.
