Yes, fellow holer's. The best and most logical choice is the big ND!!

Love them or hate them, with 12 teams and 2 divisions of 6 teams would make the most sense hands down.
Expansion to 14 or 16 teams is pure bull*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#! Besides, it would be too many teams.
A 12 team Big Ten Conference is the only answer. At least for now (or very soon).

Also remember there would be only 12 teams to split the pot for revenue sharing. Lot's of $$$$$
Another reason not to have 14 or 16 teams.

Everybody agree? Of course you do.

Go Gopher's!!!

The only reason that Rutgers is being included is that it brings in the NYC TV market. Doesn't that mean that cable providers would then have to include the BT Network in their basic sports package? That's muchos dinero for Delaney. And FOX.

I can see Nebraska, even Mizzou. But this whole thing is a ploy to get nd to blink. As for Rutgers, I think its a mistake either way. They've had a couple of decent years of football, but the Scarlet Knights are a joke in basketball. And campuswise, I've seen nicer community colleges. If all Delaney is interested in is adding TV market footprint, why not offer CSU-Northridge? Much prettier campus and the girls are cuter. Brings in the L.A. TV market, too. And CSUN actually has a respectable basketball program.

It is interesting that Syracuse didn't make the cut.

I agree but Rutgers is meeting all the qualifications as far as academics and size. they have 50,000 students and a huge alumni base, although I'm not sure how much they care.

Notre Dame....

Thanks for your input fellow holer's. The above replies indicate the Big Ten's urging of 14 teams in the conference. I guess I can live with that. Lot's of $$$$$ coming in for the conference.

More than any other concerence in the USA? Maybe so.

Go Gophers!!!

If Notre Dame is still being stubborn, I think the addition of Nebraska, Mizzou and Rutgers will still be exciting....

I like some potential matchups....
Nebraska vs. Michigan (old timey powerhouses, both now on harder times)
Missouri vs. Illinois (already a rivalry game)
Gophers vs. Nebraska ( let's hope we can pay them back for a couple of those 81-14 games back in the early 90's)
Gophers vs. Mizzou (rematch of the torrential rain game, back in the day...)
Iowa vs. Nebraska (those guys probably dont like each other too much)
Iowa vs. Mizzou (they probably dont either...)
Penn St. vs Rutgers (Nittany fans finally get to drive East)
Nebraska vs. Rutgers (eh, not so much)

Split divisions...

West

Gophers
Iowa .
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Missouri
Illinois
Northwestern

East

Michigan
Michigan St.
Ohio State
Purdue
Rutgers
Penn State
Indiana

Let's do it....sorry golden domers....we'll be fine without you.

The division split will be interesting. Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State in the same division really gives that division a huge edge over the other. Granted, Nebraska could become a powerhouse again and bring balance to the equation.

That is true from an ESPN-bias standard, but Iowa+Nebraska+Wisconsin has every opportunity to be as good or better than the three in the potential Big Ten east you identify here. Plus, schools like Minnesota and Illinois have gigantic resources and are sleeping giants that could rise any year given the right conditions. I think the two sides are more balanced than they appear.

I agree, that Iowa+Nebraska+Wisconsin have an opportunity to match up with the powerhouses of the east but, on it's face, it seems unbalanced. Granted, in this scenario, I do not see the west coming the new "Big 12 North." I would say Minnesota has the best chance of making a splash rather than Illinois. I know Illinois made the 2007 Rose Bowl but that was a perfect storm of circumstances for them. Minnesota, despite 40 years of ineptitude, has a respectable history, a city surrounding the university that could buttress the brand, and TCF Bank is a much better football venue than Memorial Stadium. Brewster, despite his exaggerations and over-optimism, is ethical in his approach, maintains solid personal relationships with his players and drives his prerogative of team unity, unlike Zook.

Delaney throws cold water on rumours...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20....ten.expansion.rumors.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

This reminds me of something I read when Pope John Paul was reportedly very ill and there were all sorts of rumors flying around. Some Vatican expert said "The pope is never sick, until he is dead". My guess is there's still a lot going on behind the scenes. My guess is that this means that nd's AD isn't returning Delaney's calls. Yet. I wonder if the irish AD reads that message board with fan comments. He's probably more in tune with what the top 1% fatcat donors have to say

The Irish? Don't we have enough arrogant fan bases already (looking at you, OSU, Mich, UW, and IA)? Bring on Navy!!

Don't forget Nebraska fans. .

I think you are confusing arrogance with confidence. Of the teams listed, I would only call Michigan truly arrogant. Of course, it has been so long since the Gophers had reason to be either confident or arrogant that it is probably easy to get confused. ;)

i think this sums up Irish fans and their sense of importance, this is from their football board...

If the Big 10 comtinues to try and force ND to join a conference, ND and Swarbrick should join with with NBC and form its own coinference (ala CBS-SEC, ESPN/ABC, Big 10 network). By using NBC as the go between to contact the other universities to join up, it wouldn't look as though ND was the prime instigator, just NBC trying to keep up with the other networks. Would have a double header on Saturday (afternoon & night) and ND must have a promise from NBC to be on every week, home or away.

This super nova conference could look something like this: EAST DIV: Notre Dame, Boston College, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh WEST DIV: Texas, Texas A&M, Utah, BYU, Boise State, Colorado.

I don't see how anyone of the schools could turn that down.

This would make the SEC & Big 10 look sick. Texas keeps their rivalry with Oklahoma and Texas A&M. ND can still scheedule Navy & USC. NBC comes out a big winner and bolsters their TV sports package.

Thoughts?

I know the schools immediately being tossed around as receiving offers are ND, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Missouri. But doesn't the Big Ten have two other options with these schools? Such as:

1. ND says yes, and the B10 only takes ND since that's who they want anyway
2. B10 doesn't take anybody, there is no expansion and life goes on as usual

Personally I think the Big 10 should take ND and that's it. As far as Divisions, put one of the Powerhouses in our division. Such as, oh I don't know...ND. Scheduling is a completely different monster.
