Stellar Offense

Dumbing down the offense

I think another reason the offense will be better is because the new coordinator won't have such a complicated passing game that it takes QB's and receivers a couple of years to learn all the routes and all the options. That and better support from the improving O-line should give the offense a real jump forward. ;)

I think that our offense will be improved across the board since we hardly lost anyone and are bringing in some people that should immediately help. That said, unless the offensive line makes marked improvement we may not realize a big improvement in results. In the end, it always comes down to line play on both sides of the ball and ours was pretty bad last year.

The Buffalo Bills have a cornerback by the name of Clemens (sp?) who has had a stellar NFL career. He was a First Team, All Big Ten corner at Ohio State for I think two years. Ron Johnson killed him, destroyed him in the game we won against Ohio State at Ohio State. Which receiver do we have next year who could do that?

With all due respect, what the heck would anyone want to compare anyone with Johnson as a college WR? Decker is an excellent receiver. Johnson was unstoppable at the college level.

Comparing any player who has not played Big Ten football or better with anyone who has played Big Ten football or better is silly. Surely any fan with any experience would know that. Let the rookies catch one pass against any BCS team before anyone but a small child compares them to anyone who has caught one such pass.

Until the day I die, I will remember the family of a certain wide receiver who was a freshman carrying picket type signs outside Michigan Stadium proclaiming him as the "Greatest Wide Receiver in the Big Ten". As it turned out, this "Greatest Receiver...." had a four year problem with catching a football, unlike Ron Johnson.

This is all just more of that "if we talk the talk......." crud.

Pittman was finally useful in the bowl game as well. Don't count out his contributions in the passing game.

The WR's have the potential to be very good, but we saw how long it took green to make an impact.

Even though all the pieces seem to be there, it's really just too much to pull together too quickly. I'm just hoping for better balance and a solid framework for 2010. If our record is the same next year as this, I think that's just fine.
Agree 100%. Injuries moved Pittman out of the picture, but I think he can be very very dangerous. There's a lot that you can do with a guy that has his skills.

Our passing game was SO dominant that year that we went 6-6.

I do think our offense will average at least 400 yards a game this year.

Ron Johnson was a very good player but how the heck can you say he was unstoppable? He had over 900 yards once in his 4-year college career. Looks like a few teams were able to stop him. Don't get me wrong, he was one of my favorite players but he was not unstoppable.

I don't remember seeing anyone compare the new players to any current players. Who are you responding to? Some have said Hayo has the potential to be a very good WR for us, but that's it. Obviously he is talented or he wouldn't have that many good schools going after him.

I think if Weber would have trusted and just thrown to someone besides Decker, we would have found out they are all better than they showed up this yr. Hopefully Weber will learn to use all his receivers and if he does we will have one explosive offense. Because with another yr of strength and maturity the OL will be much better and we'll have a running game to go with the passing game.

I know a lot of ppl on this message board project Wills as a tackle but what do you think about moving him to LG and Carufel to LT?? Remember Oklahoma's big LG Duke Robinson this past year?? He was an all-american at LG. I am not saying Wills will be but the two are about the same size i am pretty sure. Just wonderin what everyone thinks about that.

We had a very low throw offense when Johnson was here. He was a 'ten yard' receiver and if the ball got anywhere near him, it was caught by him.

But, my point was more generic. Our existing receivers other that Decker were totally, totally ineffective. Even as late as the Kansas game, Green had no idea of how to run a route for a first down on third down. When a team is on a five game losing streak, should anyone be talking about the "best receivers ever"? The whole thing is just silly.

I believe the original poster said 'talented', not best. Big difference. If they can turn the talent into results, then it may be the best receiver group.
