State Tournament 2026

That 4A Championship game was quite a battle between Hopkins and Rosemount, a fantastic basketball game. Was very impressed by Amisha Ramisall for Rosemount and her sister, and Jaliyah Diggs from Hopkins(Thought she was a great passers) has great quickness. Diggs even though she is short is a really good player, look forward to following her college career. Anither great Hopkins point guard in a long tradition of good ones. All those Juniors on the court played the game at a high level. Cupito must be the daughter of former Gophers QB Bryan. Sophomore class pretty dang good too in Minnesota, some fantastic players. A lot of great talent in Minnesota right now.

100-per-cent agree with the comment about the announcers. After the previous two state tournament years, I emailed the MSHSL league about how desperately they needed to make a change at play-by-play announcer.

This year I knew basic essential information like how many team fouls (a key part of the attempted comeback in the final minute by Hopkins) and how many individual fouls key players had. Justin Gaard clearly pointed out the time out situation. In year's past, I would get so frustrated with the lack of key info.

And I would get sick and tired of the focus on the perennial teams at the expense of doing any homework on interesting facts about other teams having great seasons.

The funniest story I heard, I think it was the stewartville team. One announcer asked the other how the sisters got along, he said. Last year they had to stop a practice. Because one sister had the other one in a headlock, he said it was a true story.

I thought JG and Lea B were a good combo. Will be interesting to see who does the boys tourney this year. Your points are well made re: Dave Lee's broadcasts. He also spent (IMO) lots of time talking about the fans (i.e.--the guy in the banana suit) and the hometown bars, grills, and cafes where local fans were watching the games. That at the expense of telling viewers what was happening on the floor.
