Starting PG Chansey Willis out for the year

Any chance Koi Perich can join the basketball team and play this season? We're going to get a bad bowl game so why not get the kid on the hardwood. He has D1 athleticism and might be helpful.

I wish someone would track the numbers of invalids on college basketball rosters over the last five or six years. I'd be interested to see where we would rank.

Obviously this is not good for a bad team that lacks depth. But Willis has been the most disappointing player on the roster so far this season. Shinholster has looked like he can be a player moving forward and will now see a lot more playing time.

I believe someone can join the team once the first semester ends, Dayton has done it before and I believe is doing it again this season, as have others. There's no reason not to exhaust every option if we're serious about winning.

Go Gophers!!

On3 lists one player in the 2026 transfer portal, Caden Pierce. He's listed as a forward but he looks like a swingman. He's from Princeton. I'm not sure why he went to the portal at the end of October. He did pretty well there the last couple of seasons.

Caden Pierce

We may end up seeing Max Lorenson playing some this year.

I recall in the 1970s—hopefully correctly—when Tom Vannelli and Butsy Erickson joined the hockey team about half way through the year (after one semester although the U was on quarters in those years?)

Honestly, this is the year for this to happen. No real expectations; it allows younger, potentially longer-term players to get more reps, and hopefully Niko will have a stronger foundation built in Year 2.

It’s just laughable at this point how snake-bitten we’ve been. The paragraph above is 100% a cope, but whatever, may as well develop the youngins.

Best-case scenario: Keep improving, get a couple of big wins later in the season, comparable to what Mason, McBrayer, and Murphy pulled off in 2015/2016, which paved the way to an outstanding season in 2016/2017.

I would legit look to the portal now, find some Euro guy who has played PG that can find a way to be eligible for BT season.

Go Gophers!!
This is just crazy enough to work!

Fucking Gopher luck. Pharrel Payne comes down and sustains what looks like a career-ending if not life-ending injury, and he's back frolicking on the court in a week. Our guy is out there just PLAYING BASKETBALL and fucks his foot up to the tune of ending his season. What, the, eff.

I am excited for Shinholster to see how he develops. Give him minutes.

Shinholster is leading the gophers in 3pt shooting at 37.5 %. 3 of 8 small sample size. He is very weak to go against people 20-30lbs heavier on defense and on the boards, but he could be ok on the offensive end.

I am not sure the gophers get way more injuries than other teams, they just seem to have no depth at certain positions when they happen. Most teams have 4 or more reliable guards.

I think Shinholster is going to have to lay as a 2 because of our severe guard shortage. Do to his length I think he will be fine. Not sure if he has the handle yet for playing the point. I like his potential- the works hard out there and has a little speed and hops to go with it.

For sure. Turner has not looked good at all but as the season goes on I think they have to give him some run to see what it is that caused him to average about 16 pg in the last 10 games last year- including a 31 point game. I don't see what we have to lose. Grove is really a 4 and has no power inside- although he shows some flashes where he is smooth.

He is definitely light, and will likely take a beating this year. He just seems to have some game.

Alright, I am about to put the fan in fantasy. Kyan Evans is struggling at UNC. Cade Tyson struggled there too. IMO Hubert Davis is not a good coach. Kyan sees this and gets a call from his old mentor Niko who needs a PG. Transfers to us for the spring semester.*****

*****This is not a prediction, it is not going to happen, we aren't winning anything this year so all I can do is daydream.

I don't see another loss on the schedule............

In my opinion, the staff would be crazy to at least not have this cross their mind.

That could happen except they're paying him like $3 million.

We have to play Turner and at least see what's there. Give him some run tonight and live with what happens.
