Starters in there towards the end of the game.

I don't understand why Wisconsin kept their starters in there at the end of the game. What happens to them if their QB gets hurt? I can understand keeping Gray in there just to see if we can get something positive to happen. However, it wouldn't hurt us to let Shortel and others develop as well.
 

They put in the backup QB last week in the 4th quarter and he threw a couple of short passes. People on this board bitched about that. Wilson stayed in to hand off, people on this biard upset about that. Abesides just stopping the game, it does not appear there are alternatives that will make people happy.

Your problem is that you read a few comments and assume every other Gophers fan agrees. Just because a few think something doesn't mean everyone else does.

But common sense doesn't seem to be strong with you.
 

Just stop them, then there in no problem. With that said, butt belimic is still an a&%hole.
 

I have no problem with them leaving their starters in at the end if that is what they choose to do. I just think it is not too wise to do so. Wisconsin should have their sights set on bigger things than MN. Without this QB they have no chance on reaching them. So with that said ... I still think it was not the prudent thing to do.
 


Was that a starting lineman that got carted off? If so, I would have taken that as an omen to play the reserves. But that is why I'm here and not on the sidelines.

Honest question for you. Having Peter Konz in the game in the 4th Quarter with the game decided and an opportunity to develop depth, in hindsight, would you rather have him ready to start next week, or out 2-4 weeks with a dislocated ankle? Isn't that a legitimate question?

Of course, nothing happens to a player, like last year, no worries. Summer's Eve can do with his team whatever he wants to do, and he does. I'd be pissed if we lost our starting center in a game we'd won and weren't developing the second team on and that had implications on our ability to win the division and play in the conf title game.

But maybe that's just me.
 

I think Bielema is a total chucklehead, but this is the way it seems to be going throughout the NCAA in recent years. I don't know what it's all about, but I think it's about letting your star guys rack up the biggest stat numbers they can so you can sell star recruits on the pattern that you let your big dogs pad the stat sheet even when the game is well in hand. I find it goofy at a level.

And truth be told, Mason would leave Maroney, Barber, and Russell in there long after Troy, Tulsa, or the cupcake du jour was down 40 and let them rack up yards so we could have two 1,000 yard rushers in the same season. Nice little bit for the media guide, but I don't think it accomplished much in the whole scheme of things. And this isn't an attack on Mason because he was just doing the same thing other coaches were doing. Again, for whatever reason.

Konz got hurt very early in the 4th quarter. Even if Bielema was the type of coach to be very quick to pull his starters, I'm guessing the starting center would still be in early in the 4th quarter up 3 scores.

As for why Wilson was still in burning the clock late in the game? I don't really know. But with the injury to Konz looking fairly serious, maybe they wanted to get him comfortable taking snaps from the new center. Either way, who cares? UW threw like 3 or 4 passes in the second half. They obviously took their foot off the gas.

I don't have an issue. I was surprised Wisconsin did not try to score again actually. However, that philosophy was probably dictated by PSU and OSU losing already that day. Wisconsin controls its destiny to the CCG now. Before the PSU and OSU losses, they were looking to face an at large bid. They are ranked 17th in the BCS right now, so they would have needed style points to pad their case for an at large bid. If OSU and PSU both would have won, I think Wisconsin would have won 56-13.

It's the OL so they don't need to develop depth. They just reload. And considering that the backup, Groy, has plenty of experience they should be fine either way.

This does make sense, just stupid that people would care if he is still in late in the game. Keep the damn game close and we don't have to worry abou it.

Football is a game where an injury can literally happen at any second. I don't think coaches worry about it like fans do. It was early in the 4th quarter. What if he puts in the backup center and a snap is muffed and the Gophers score? The coach gets killed then for having his reserves in. Coaches are always going to be second guessed, no matter what they do.

I think there are much bigger issues the staff should be concerned with than a starter playing early in the fourth quarter.
