Star Tribune's Rayno adds her own story to Teague scandal

Kudos to her for sharing. What a tough spot to be in as a young reporter. Now we know why he isn't fighting and hit the road pronto.

It's really sad that she wasn't able to share this until now, as many women can't for fear it will hurt their careers. Proud of Amelia for writing this.

What a POS Teague is. I wish she would have come forward earlier.

but it makes you wonder why she waited until someone else stronger than her came out and said it.

She is one, they were two. Simple to understand.

The same reason many women don't - because they think that no one will believe them, it will hurt their career or a myriad of other reasons. This happens a LOT, and it's not okay to shun women. You questioning her is another reason why women don't come forward.

but she is a reporter at one of the top 20 newspapers in the country. the person who exposed teague, the real hero that amelia seems to be trying to attach herself to, had not a lot of power at all. no nationwide outlet, no weekly column, and no name recognition.

No need to wonder if you actually read Amelia's excellent article, and no need to wonder if you actually understood what you quoted from GopherLady.

Trying to attach herself to? Did you read the article?

This is an awful incident, but this excerpt from Kaler's response to Rayno's article is right on:

"I deeply regret to now learn that a reporter covering the University was also subject to this type of deplorable behavior and I extend a sincere apology to Ms. Rayno.

The two reports that led to Friday’s resignation were the first of their kind to be reported to the University's Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Office and President's Office, and the University took swift action. With this latest report, we will look into whether any university employees who have a responsibility to report these kinds of concerns were aware of the incidents. We take all reports of sexual harassment very seriously and we encourage anyone else who experienced such actions to come forward. They may remain anonymous by reporting through the UReport, our confidential reporting service at 1-866-294-8680 or online at ureport.ethicspoint.com."

Good riddance. This is not the face of the University we'd want.

i read it again and it seems like if amelia had actually used her position as a powerful woman in the national media, that this whole situation could have been avoided. this woman who risked her whole life to expose teague might not have even been assaulted.

i honestly thought a couple weeks ago was the first time Norwood had ever done anything like that before...

If you close your eyes and try very very hard, you just might get a clue.

Just like you use your power of anonymity?

It was my decision to make and I chose what I believed was self-preservation. I didn’t want my career interrupted because of a powerful man’s misdeeds. Making a formal complaint could have resulted in me losing access at the university.

she picked her job over bringing justice to a sexual predator. sure, he might have brought her career to an end, but she could have protected other women.

There is nothing more pathetic than doubling down on nonsense.

Just so I am clear, you are claiming "this whole situation could have been avoided" if Amelia had taken action? Really? Are you related to Norwood?

After this latest report from Amelia I now expect this story to continue to evolve in two ways:

1) How many other women were harassed by Teague, and will anyone else come forward? Not fair to speculate, but I'm guessing it's not zero.

and

2) Was anyone within the athletic department, the university as a whole, or the extended U of M community aware of Teague's actions? Like Rayno, people may have been aware of Teague's transgressions and been hesitant to come forward due to fear of the effects on their day-to-day lives.

i am not going to reply to you any more because you don't seem to be able to read.

I am not the most sensitive guy on the planet but, wow, you are clueless.

One of the dumbest posts I have read on GH and that is saying something....

My reading comprehension skills are quite attuned, but your complete lack of common decency and logic are another matter entirely.
