Starting QB K.J. Costello is the latest to put his name in yesterday. Speculation is he will go to Michigan. A couple starting O line guys are in it as well. Something is funny on the Farm.

The Cardinal has 12 players in the portal, the highest total in the conference and an astonishing number for what is typically one of the most stable programs in the west.

Sometimes they call it “crowd hysteria” as well.
 

It seems like al their OL recruits are 4* guys. If they are starting and fit what we do we certainly could use one of those!

Maybe, maybe not. We have 6 returning lineman that all played a ton. Plus you would have to hope that by next season there would be some additional depth ready to step in and play if needed.

With all 5 starters and all but 2 backups coming back, If we take a transfer I'd prefer we use the last spot on either another WR, a DE or a DB that can play nickel.
 


So, you have a bachelor's degree from Stanford and you're looking to get a graduate degree from somewhere else?
 

All we really need is defensive players.

Williams and Swift are starters from their defensive line with Swift having 7.5 sacks.

Also Eboh, was a starting corner to begin the season but lost his job to a potential draftee.

The original intent of the grad transfer rule was to allow transfer to a school offering a grad program not available at the original school. Seems fishy in the case of leaving Stanford.

But Stanford probably doesn't offer the same programs available at UNC......

Fleck said yesterday on the radio that his preference/philosophy is to not use the portal if at all possible. He said it is hard to develop and build a player who comes in for only one year. He's more open to those with multiple years left.

Why is it fishy? They can do what they want. Please link the “original intent” so we can read it ourselves.

That is true, but believe me they'll find some what to make it work.

And honestly, if you've earned a bachelor's degree (regardless from where), 1) good for you! 2) let's reward those types of kids. Let them transfer without sitting out.
 

Could you imagine how we would feel if 13 Gophers were in the transfer portal all trying to get out?

Major red flags going on at Stanford....

Northwestern, Wash U, University of Chicago, Michigan, Notre Dame all considered much better schools than Wisconsin anyhow.

WashU is the Harvard of the Midwest...Wisconsin is the Wisconsin of the Midwest.

The rule was changed a few years back, but the original rule was that it had to be to a school that offered a graduate program your school did not. But it was silly because they would find some niche degree that wasn't offered and always found a way to make it happen (there were some threads on it when Russel Wilson transferred to Wisco). Now you can just transfer once you graduate, regardless.

It seems awful strange that many kids would transfer out of there, regardless if it's graduate or otherwise. Seems like something is rotten in the state of California...

That's true but Stanford has been able to churn out quality lineman for years and when Big Dan went down we were not able to run our six man sets. I personally didn't like that. Give me a quality player that's in his fourth year in a program with a couple of years left. Over a younger guy that's only got his redshirt year. Now, if one of those transfers is a 7.5 sack d lineman which is a greater area of need then for sure sign him up!

U of Chicago is by far the closest thing to an Ivy League school in the midwest in reputation and character. In fact it outranks most of the Ivies. Northwestern's ranked super high too but its Big Ten membership gives it more of an approachable air.

UChicago is better. Would say easily the top academic school -- not research, but purely academic -- in the country outside the coasts.

If the rule language has actually changed to that ... or if that's just the defacto way they enforce it now (or rather, lack of enforcement) ... either way, good. That's how it should be.

We should be rewarding student-athletes for earning their undergrad degrees! That is ostensibly what the whole NCAA thing is about.
