My wife had a family gathering last week so I joined her just to see the two new stadiums (or is it stadii)?
TCF stadium is spectacular. The last time I saw the Gophers in Mpls was against OJ (1968?). We now have as good a facility as there is. I walked up and got a ticket on the 48 yard line 10th row upper deck.
Everything about the facility was first class. The location is set beautifully and the stadium has enough resemblance to old Memorial Stadium to be nostalgic. The food was good (and I tried a lot of it) and reasonably priced. I couldn't find a beer so I must have gotten lost, eh?
The Tuesday before I went to the Twins game. WOW! Some architect should be given a statue. They took a crappy, small and misshaped piece of property and created an intimate, gorgeous stadium.
The food s good, too. But reasonably priced isn't one of the adjectives. $11.50 for a beer and a dog! Jeesh! I went into the shoppe and picked out a Mauer throwback jersey and took it to the counter. $260! Yep, $260 for a cotten throwback jersey. I put it back. Not only that, but it was made in Nicaragua. Nicaragua, for God's sake. AT $260 they could use union labor in NYC and still make a killing. Maybe Mauer get's $100 of it? The next day I went to Goldy's at TCF stadium and bought some Gopher clothing.
Bottom line, the Twin Cities are lucky to have two locations a wonderful as these. And we can all rest in the knowledge that the Vikings won't get a dime from the City or State for another ten years which means that the Gophers will be the only football option left in two years. Not ignoring, of course, St. Thomas.
Go Gophers!
