St. Thomas

Really?

This is a place for University of Minnesota fans to get information and have some discussion about their teams.

Every team has their own sites, if UST doesn't have a site then create one.

The last thing we want is to attract a bunch of misguided tommie fans to this board and have them contaminate all of the other threads with their unrelated boasting of UST's latest win over a Little Sisters of the Poor school.

Why don't we have a thread on Hamline basketball?
Why don't we have a thread on NDSU basketball?
Why don't we have a thread on UConn basketball?
etc....

Because of all the people that read Gopherhole, very few people give a shit about those teams! And if they did, they would go to that team's site to get the local info.

PS. And I am an UST alum
"The Golden Gopher Basketball Forum is where die-hard Gopher basketball fans talk about the program, upcoming games, recruiting, and college basketball." is the description of the thread, UST falls under "College Basketball". We don't have a thread on Hamline because they are D3 and any discussion falls under the all things D2/D3 thread. We don't have a thread on NDSU because they are in a different state, same thing with UConn. It's obvious that MINNESOTA programs get the most discussion in this forum as many on this board are interested in local hoops beyond the Gophers. If UST was still D3, no one would care, but they are a D1 program also located in the heart of Minneapolis. Discussion around them and comparisons to the Gophers was inevitable once they made the jump. Also you only use "an" when the sound of the next word is a vowel, otherwise "a" would be the appropriate lead in to "UST alum".

At this point, one of the great joys that can be derived from this message board is reading posts from folks imploding about UST related content. A personal favorite is when someone will talk about the rules for what can and can't get posted and lament a thread's existence, all while violating their own rules whilst keeping the thread at the top of the board with their additions to it. That'll show'em.

We are going to create a Off-Topic St. Thomas/Summit League Basketball Board for those that want to specifically discuss St. Thomas and/or Summit League Basketball. We will not do this for other teams or leagues but it's clear there is distinct interest in St. Thomas specifically and it is also clear that there are Gopher fans that are unable to not click a St. Thomas thread without getting upset. So this allows an expansion of St. Thomas/Summit League discussion and won't impact the Gopher Basketball Forum (which will continue to include college basketball discussion in general), in fact it should eliminate the angst that some have when a St. Thomas discussion pops up.

We appreciate the feedback and believe this will allow continued Gopher Basketball and college basketball discussion without distraction of St. Thomas/Summit League on this forum.

As with all new ideas, we reserve the right to change course as we evaluate the effectiveness of the new Board which we anticipate will be live in the next week or so.

Thank you.

Best outcome ever… 😂

Now USAF I can take it to the UST board without leaving GH!!! Thanks buddy..

Finn Clavin you deserve credit as well..

Today Was A Good Day….

Thank you GH Staff.

This is the best of both worlds.

I will put some UST (current roster) & Summit League non-conference schedule updates for all 9 teams on the new forum when it becomes operative just to get the ball rolling a little bit. I understand a lot of folks here dislike and/or are indifferent to UST (and that's OK), so this should alleviate the angst in the Gopher basketball forum. Can't speak for others, but I can assure you anytime I have something to say about St. Thomas and/or the Summit League, it will be in the new forum. ... and hold me to it if it isn't.

You do not think I was actually serious about Hamline, etc threads. They were just examples of how stupid it is to create a thread about another team on GopherHole.

Go create your own site for UST if you want to talk about UST.

Says the guy who was absent from this forum for the Ben years, now comes back to boss everyone around on what content should be allowed. "The Golden Gopher Basketball Forum is where die-hard Gopher basketball fans talk about the program, upcoming games, recruiting, and college basketball." is the description in the thread. General college basketball discussion is allowed and always has been, but skipping over a thread you aren't interested in is apparently too hard. I don't come to this forum for UST chatter, but I also don't mind reading about it because it is tangentially related since they are another local D1 basketball program located in Minneapolis. Thank you for being the hall monitor no one asked for. I hope mods remove any discussion from this forum that is not directly related to the Gophers going forward to keep you happy.

So the mods caved in to that whining twit Finn, despite the fact the board description has always been:

Golden Gopher Basketball Forum

Donate To GopherHole Post thread

They said it is going to be an off-topic forum. So I'm assuming it will be just like the political, pop culture and pro sports forums we already have.

The original discussion was to just add a regular thread in the Gopher hoops board and I emphatically pointed out how I thought that was a bad idea. Sorry that I didn't agree with your take that GopherHole should be a home to targeted discussions that cater to the fans of another basketball team. Of course, from time to time, spontaneous discussions pop up about all types of "non-Gopher" topics. But, I bet that you would create quite a ruckus if you tried to create a discussion thread for Appalachian State fans on the Tar Heels site. Oh, wait, App State already has their own site ....which asks the question: Are you really a D1 school if you do not have your own fan site?

I can see the way GH added a spot in the off-topic discussions as a way to gauge the fan interest in UST. They may want to start a fan site for UST.

There are tons of threads about other teams on Gopherhole.
That’s why this is the one of the dumbest invested problems I have ever seen. Over on the football board there’s a thread about Nico Iamaleava which has nothing to do with Gopher Football. Not sure why this insult to our existence has been allowed to stand. Meanwhile nobody can bring up the other D-1 basketball program in our own state.

There’s about three people that can’t handle seeing S- T- (not going to type out the full name because I don’t want to trigger anyone by violating their safe space) brought up. They act like the board has been flood with posts about S- T- when in reality there isn’t hardly any.

Rest easy guys knowing that you won’t have to scroll past the name S- T- here anymore. Hope you can survive the trauma that having to see it in the past has caused you.

Personally I enjoy the St.Thomas chatter, just as I do with South Dakota State, UND, NDSU, and now Omaha as well and of course Oral Roberts in the sweet 16. I still think we should play St.Thomas, even though I can be honest and say not much for us to gain, but a lot for fans to see. Anyway, they're going the punches just like other summit league teams losing their top players

Of course there are... These are all spontaneous discussions about topics that add to the breath of GopherHole. Most of them run their course and die.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I just didn't think it was good idea to have a thread devoted to another team's fanbase. I think it would tend to draw in posters that would find a way to infecting many other threads with their UST rah, rah.

I think that the way GH has decided to place a thread in the OT section is a good alternative, since they are one of the few D1 schools that doesn't have their own fan site.

I know I came on very strong about this topic and that it may have come across as a lack of tolerance for any non-gopher discussions. I didn't mean that at all. I just didn't want our board hijacked by some over zealous UST fans that are starved for a place to express their "support".

Below was a post from someone in a different thread, but yes, they do have their own site:

fwiw, there is a St Thomas discussion forum but it is a closed slack channel by invite only to keep the deranged lunatics out. Yours truly is the founder of it.

And there is a good discussion over there about the potential next Gopher HC. Ironically, nobody is complaining about the chatter 🙃

If you are not a deranged lunatic (and are a St Thomas fan interested in engaging with intelligent banter with other St Thomas fans), drop me a message and I'll vet you for an invite.
