I am stepping into a minefield here.

What would members think about a separate St. Thomas news in the other subjects?

I have no opinion either way.

Honestly, it depends on how you want to run a board. I’m pretty agnostic to where threads go and if they go off topic. If we want all non-gopher related college basketball threads to their own forum, thst makes sense. Moving just UST threads seems odd.

I would like the mods to move all St Thomas talk to the off-topic Sports Forum. All who wanted to talk St Thomas sports could do so there. This forum is for Gopher basketball and should remain so. Heck, to be more accommodating I would even accept a St Thomas Forum along the lines of the Timberwolves Forum. But, not in the Gopher Men's basketball forum.

If you don’t want to know anything about St. Thomas don’t read the threads. Pretty easy.

I think that the presumption here is that St Thomas is not now and never will be in our class level and therefore not a competitor. In the future, they might be, especially if they end up in the Big East. Personally, I think St Thomas stuff should be elsewhere. Imagine Cinncinatti having Xavier fan threads on their board- I don't think that would fly. No big deal either way.

I'm interested and curious about St Thomas basketball. I prefer it to be on the Gopher basketball page...you can scroll by it if you're not interested
They are the only other DI basketball school in Minnesota. I like knowing what is going on but I'm not likely to search for them in the other topics board.
I like Gopher baseball and softball but rarely sift through other Gopher sports.

When you want to read about MN Timberwolves, where do you go? I am fine with the GH owners creating a forum for the Tommy Hole crowd to talk about the what nots happening down on Cleveland and Summit, but there is no need to clog up this forum just because 5 guys want to talk about purple and gray instead of maroon and gold.

The Wolves are pros.. terrible comparison. Another bad post not as bad as the HWiggins one though… Off Topic UST Off Topic D2-D3 as well Off Topic High School chatter as well.. makes sense

Agree.

Totally cool with UST/Summit League off-topic board. That's up to the mods, though.

Out of the 50 most recent threads, one (besides this one) has St. Thomas in the title. More than one has references to St. Thomas basketball. Count me as one who has no desire to see any content related to St. Thomas on the Gopher Basketball board.

EDIT: I know there are references to other teams as well. I find it much more bearable if it's high major basketball references.

Does that go for all non-Gopher NCAAB discussion? I’d gladly hop over to any OT forum but people on here who constantly talk about non-Gopher college basketball are hyper-sensitive about UST talk. It started with mocking them, laughing at the idea that they could compete with us and then hissy fits when they’re mentioned. I’m not saying that’s you, I’m not keeping track of folks, but there have been long running threads every year on MIAC football, D2 football, non-gopher games on Saturdays, there is a thread about the Tennessee QB on the football forum. None of those seem to strike the nerve that UST discussions strikes.

There is always going to be a one-off thread that is vaguely related to Minnesota, but those are one and done. What we now have is St Thomas alum coming here, claiming they support the Gophers while posting continual updates on their true favorite team. Just look at RolandBrooks comments and see that he thrives in St Thomas and actually derides the Gophers. He is no different than a Wisconsin fan coming on the site.
bga brought up that Cincinnati would never tolerate Xavier fans posting updates on their team on the Bearcats discussion site.

I think Roland has been posting here for years. It used to be entirely possible to just be a UST fan and a Gopher fan. So I don’t think it’s comparable to Xavier/Cinci. That said, message boards typically have fans from other teams. We have it. There are badger fans who post on here regularly.

Also the non-Gopher related posts happen every single week. They are entire threads that are unrelated to the U and people don’t get mad about it.

It is entirely possible to talk St Thomas on the Off-topic Sports Forum, like other Minnesota sports teams are discussed. That is the best option, unless you don't really care about this being a Golden Gopher website.

Sure there are discussion/threads about other teams, but usually it's national level news of general interest to college basketball/football. The UST stuff usually feels like stuff only a UST fan would care about vs. Gopher fans presenting information for discussion.

If I want to hear about all news, comings, and goings about my other teams I follow: (Western Michigan-2025 Frozen Four champs-proud alum and Indiana), I go to their forums. I don't expect GH to create a thread for them. As for non-Gopher related items that pertains to something in the sporting news, i.e Nico Imaleavin', those are revelant headline discussions and definitely a thread for discussion. I could care less on what is happening at St Thomas, if I did, I'd go to their forum.

It is not now comparable to X and Cincy, but that is because the two teams reside at different levels. St Thomas wants to go higher and that could mean that in the future there is a rivalry instead of a big brother/little brother relationship. At some point Gopher fans are going to tire of St Thomas threads and that point may be nearing. I don't much care as it is easy to skip by it.

Far, far greater annoyance to me is seeing tons of activity on a thread...only to click on it and we are talking about waay different things than the title. And if you want to find news on the title you have to skim through those posts.
Sometimes the tangent is even very entertaining but it still needs it's own thread.
Pretty sure most St Thomas threads get quite a few clicks?
I'm chafed Selection Sunday's St Thomas-Gopher Roster thread got axed. It had great content.
The Niko introductory press conference was dominated by: Are you going to play St Thomas?!
It's relevant to Gopher basketball. We get far more Wisconsin basketball discussion than St Thomas....it's relevant to Gopher basketball. I'm afraid to ask...we going to ban that next? Then Iowa?
Again, there are lots of threads I don't click on...just scroll by. But let people post what they want in a title. If people have interest it'll stick. If not it'll disappear in a day.

Oh, and by the way did anybody see the Timberwolves boat raced the Los Angeles Lakers tonight?
Go Wolves!
