Do you favor censoring or banning St Thomas Basketball Discussion on the Gopher Basketball Forum?

I was doing some research: The independent think tank...Iowa Research Institute of Online Polls suggest that statistical studies indicate a plus or minus 7.1% for margin of error. Seems pretty much a tossup?
+ or - 7 as a margin of error is a bit absurd. Besides you're now down by 20%.

Am I a competing University with the Gophers? No. Just because you want the Tommies to get props at this site and I don't doesn't mean I hold any sway here. I come here to read about the Gophers and what's happening in that circle. I don't come here to read about St Thomas players or their goings on. That's great stuff for a dedicated St Thomas website.
Give up on your control issue. Clearly UST talk and other non-Gopher chat is included under the acceptable umbrella of GH under College Basketball. Like it or not, it is acceptable. Other teams fans come to GH and join in with the chat and its been generally accepted. But often they bring an interesting perspective. And yes, I remember correctly, a couple of them eventually being banned.

This is really not that difficult. Just don't read the UST talk. Obviously you aren't interested in UST talk and thats OK. There are threads that I ignore and never read. But others do. BTW I am not a UST fan nor alum. I just find the UM/UST topic interesting.

Most interesting revelation for me... !'m a Tommy fan now!
Who knew?
My "fight" however goodnatured is all about censorship. I'm ambivalent about St Thomas.

Probably tied for first on my list...I do not like Wisconsin or Iowa...always disappointing if the Gophers do not prevail but, those two hurt more. I'd be very disappointed if a precedent is set and they are the next to be banished because somebody from Wisconsin posts too often so we eliminate Wisconsin rather than the offender/s.

Just don't get the St Thomas hatred.

Your equating sending a neighbor who has stayed too long and needs to go home with hatred. I doubt many have hatred (unless you're an alum of a MIAC school), but rather it's an annoyance the the neighbor won't take the hint and go home now.

Vote Yes if you feel St Thomas basketball discussion has no place on Gopher Basketball Forum.
Vote NO if you would prefer to make the choice whether to read about St Thomas basketball on Gopherhole's Golden Gopher Basketball Forum. Basically leaving it like it was last basketball season.
This isn’t TommieHole.com. Start your own Tommie website and see if there is enough interest.

I find it ironic that apparently the one “Tommy Board” that exists you literally have to go through a vetting process to get an invite to. No one had a problem with this, but if you prefer keeping the gopherhole for the Gophers then it is censorship…weird.

I think "hatred" is a poor choice of words. It's more like a deep-seeded territorialism being displayed by loyal Gopher fans over a lost puppy out in the cold looking for a warm place to poop.

Anyone on either side of the debate complaining about a dedicated UST thread on the OTB is being irrational and uncompromising IMO. Maybe charge GH users $10.00 per year if they want access to the thread and send that $30.00 to Dinkytown Athletes?

Now if we really want to have some fun with it, put the new thread on the Politics Board and let 'er rip.

I don’t give a rats ass about St Thomas, just sayin
Same with me. But this isn't about UST or the Gophers.

This is clearly about discarding and removing any and all discussion from the main GH site that includes UST due to the whims and demands of certain posters who choose to read the posts rather than choosing to ignore them. Discussion which is fully acceptable under the current umbrella of Gopher Hole policy. Yet discussion involving fans from other teams or other basketball related topics are allowed.

Whenever there is an off topic site about UST I likely won't go there. I could basically care less. What I care about is the process and decision that the ownership GH has exercised under their rights as owners of the site. Either stand behind and allow "college basketball" discussion for all or remove it from their policy statement.

I don't care a bit about St Thomas- nor do I care whether there are threads here about them here or in a new section of GH. If there is to be serious competition between the two programs then I think St Thomas content would be better moved to a different section. If not, then no big deal.

If you don’t want to read about St. Thomas, skip those threads.

As long as the forum description says college basketball discussion is fair game, talking about St. Thomas should be allowed.
Again, at this point, it is not a rivalry so it should be fine. If it becomes one, then it should go elsewhere. I don't think we want an "all things Wisconsin Badgers thread here" just for example. It's just an invitation for trolling.

Btw, people saying they could care less are technically saying they care more than zero. What you mean is that you *couldn’t* care less.

I am ambivalent towards UST (which I believe is the more correct description). Because of that, I don’t care if someone talks about them. If you do, you are probably pretty insecure.

This doesn't get anywhere near the top of the list of things that will keep me up at night in either case, but I voted "yes".

I don't really think the term banned or censored in the question is the appropriate term. I would argue for limited in the same way content is limited for other teams. I personally like threads that capture "all things" like the coaches fired/hired thread or all portal news or all NCAA game threads because they cut across all college basketball teams. Even threads like the Baylor loses all its players is emblematic of the current culture in college basketball so could lead to interesting discussion. Broader than just Baylor, in my view. If St. Thomas fell into any of the categories I just listed then of course it would be ok to post about in those particular threads. But threads devoted specifically to St. Thomas players or coaches might be a little out of place here. This wouldn't even be a topic of conversation if the question was related to Wisconsin or Iowa even though we have a large contingent of fans for both in the area.

Ironically, we already ran into this scenario a few years ago when the question was raised pertaining to U of M women's basketball and the number of threads that were started. It seemed like a pretty good compromise to create a separate place to post for the smaller contingent of fans that are particularly interested in Gophers women's hoops.

So then GH should ignore discussion about serious competition with Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska? Really???

That is just a feeble excuse. The mods have the ability to ban troller's in order to create a civil discussion and when necessary exercise their option.

I'm assuming Finn either got kicked out of UST, couldn't get into UST, or is one of the whiny homeowners in the Mac-Groveland neighborhood who doesn't like living near the college, despite the college being there for over a century before he was even born. There's no other rational reason for this absurd behavior.

Bullshit and you know it.

This board always has discussions about various topics, including UST that live and die on their own merit. NO Problem. There is no "censorship" about the new local "baby D1" program. We don't care enough about them, that is the point.

The Main board is not a home for a UST fan board!

GH is generous enough it give it a try in the OT thread (that all GHer's have access to). Maybe it is a test to see if the owners want to create a Tommie's site, who knows. Or maybe they got tired of all the whining about it and decided it isn't worth it.

I honestly didn't even know it was happening until 60s Guy decided to go (insert terrible comedian who doesnt get why his jokes arent funny) on the bit and start whining about censorship. I care as much about whether they are "censored" (lol) as I do about St. Thomas in general and people post about them. Its not my web site though so if the Hole Staff wants it separated you can either deal with it or find another site to go to. They make the rules not us.

So everything has got to have some hidden grudge for you to understand it?

Save Gopher Hole..

Coming from a Gopher fan who uses Roland Brooks as his username.. went to Mychal Thompson basketball camp- still have the picture taken at Macalester with Bells.. Went to Jim Dutcher camp where as a real youngin remember smelling weed for the first time.. I can’t remember if it was John Wiley or Zeb coming from the parking lot.. it was not cologne I smelled.. 😂.. still go 5+ plus games minus the last two could not handle watch The Gophers offense..

This whole thing cracks me up actually…

In general I agree, but there have been multiple threads where the posts mix St. Thomas and Gopher content. I find that inconvenient and have ended up avoiding those threads altogether. I suspect that will get worse over time.

The homepage would likely also get more inconvenient for Gopher fans if Tommy fans start in game threads, post game threads, and other threads during the season and more fans migrate to the board.

I think a separate GH board for them is a great solution to this.
