St. Cloud Times: Tech star on Gophers coach: 'He's a really fun, energetic guy'

So, what's P.J. Fleck like? Is his high-energy persona for real?

Someone who has gained some insight into the University of Minnesota football coach is St. Cloud Tech's Breyvn Spann-Ford. Spann-Ford is now one of his players, spending the summer taking classes and getting ready for his freshman season.

From the sound of it, Spann-Ford is ready to 'Row the Boat' (a term Fleck has a copyright for).

"He's a really fun, energetic guy," Spann-Ford said by phone. "You learn from him every time he speaks to you. I've come to learn that."

Sure, Spann-Ford agreed, you learn football stuff. But it's more than that.

"Life things," Spann-Ford said. "As a team, we're all in this together. There are going to be negatives and positives and we've got to stick together always."

This is great to see. Fleck is a players coach, those that buy into the culture will be all in for the U.

I'm really excited about Spann-Ford. I think he's a guy that could be successful at multiple positions in college. I know we have him slotted for TE, but I really liked his high school tape at DE.
