Thoughts...

Gopher tidbits:

Minnesota will be #8 seed in NCAA tourney. I'd be a bit disappointed with an 8 seed. I'm hoping for at least a 6.

Best passer in Big 10: Al Nolen. Nolen is not the best passer in the B10.

Top frosh in Big 10: Royce White. Yup.

Best transfer in Big 10: Trevor Mbakwe. Assuming he can play.

Best recruiter in Big 10: Tubby Smith.

(Yes, it really says that) The title is a bit misleading... I love Tubby, and he does have the best group coming into the conference this season... but I don't think Tubby is the 'best recruiter' at all.

Gophers have 3rd best recruits in Big 10. I assume you mean the 3 best.. I agree on #1 and #2, but I'm less bullish on Rodney, at least for the upcoming season. Rodney will be a very good Gopher in time, but not this season.

3rd best JuCo rebounder in 2009: Trevor Mbakwe, 13.2 per game. Mbakwe brings some needed inside toughness and rebounding, assuming he's innocent and cleared to play.

Cory Joseph is named 2nd team HS All-American. I will be ecstatic if we get Cory, and I think he puts us into tremendous position if he puts on the Maroon and Gold. But it's still going to be very tough to beat out UConn, Nova and Texas. I think if he's smart, Texas is way too loaded in their backcourt, Nova is loaded, but not quite as much except for Cory's freshman year. Calhoun could retire any second... Still, all 3 teams are quality programs who will be tough to beat out.

The 8 seed is a bit of a surprise given all of our awards (Tubby best recruiter? I mean, I trust him when he gets a guy in his sights, but the best?) and the fact that pretty much every preseason publication has us ranked in the 15-20 range, which translates to about a 4-5 seed. That seems about right, this team is going to improve.

Best recruiters:
Matta
Izzo
Smith/Painter
Crean
