South Carolina fires Darrin Horn; Gamecock fans debate going after Tubby

Highly unlikely to happen but wouldn't be upset if we had to give Tim Miles a call.

Tim Miles? We can do much better than him. Flip is the obvious choice to me. He would be fantastic as a college head coach.

Flip is about as likely as Tony Dungy was for football, only I would be way more skeptical about Flip, again I wouldn't mind if he was our coach, just think you're trading Tubby in for basically the samething, sso if the U wants to go in another direction or Tubby moves on than hiring someone roughly te same age who has 5-7 years max in the tank doesn't seem like the way to go. It be like all those years the Vikings spent signing veteran qb's instead drafting somebody

Not this $hit again! :horse:

Flip has said many times this is his dream job. This is entirely different than Tony Dungy. If Tubby were to leave, which isn't going to happen, Flip would be hired within 2 weeks in my opinion. I don't see how Gopher fans wouldn't be excited about Flip as head coach. And regarding the dead horse thing, I'm sorry I don't spend 24 hours a day on a message board to see what you guys are discussing. Flip would do a better job here than Tubby, that's for sure.

What do you have to back this statement up with? Flip has never been a head coach at the college level before. Who knows, maybe he would be in way over his head.

I'm not saying that will happen, or that we shouldn't consider him if Tubby leaves/gets fired, but its hardly a certainty that he will be successful.

Saunders began his coaching career at Golden Valley Lutheran College where he compiled a 92–13 record, including a perfect 56–0 mark at home, in four seasons.

Ha ha ha! Good one.

Bareemo was talking, as far as, about this, as far as, today at 5 pm too. They weren't, as far as, predicting, as far as, it happening, from the standpoint of, it being a possibility. As far as, from the standpoint, of whether it would, as far as, happen, they weren't, as far as, saying that.

South Carolina native Greg Marshall seems like the obvious first choice for the job.

Greg Marshall should get the job IMO

Nice to be in the position where we are arguing who we would rather have as head coach, Tubby or Flip.

Yes! That style of never finishing a sentence! That's why I can only take so much of him. I can't get past it.

I've never heard anyone mention that before. I'm not doubting you've heard him say it, just haven't read anything like that on Gopherhole from the posters that want Flip.

Flip has never said this is his dream job. The closest is when asked if he would consider it he said "Ya, I would consider it"

I don't think he will find one. Flip is a professional person and coming out and saying that would be crapping on Tubby. That is not his MO.

I know that. I also know that DMB will make crap up. I'll be holding my breath.

I don't know why anyone, Greg Marshall or otherwise, would be running towards this job. They've cycled through the next hot thing (Horn) and tried and true veterans (Dave Odom, Eddie Fogler) since they've moved into the SEC 18 years ago. In '97 the Gamecocks had a great regular season and then were bounced in the first round of the NCAA tournament by Coppin State (one of four times a 15 seed has won a game). Outside of that season, it's been a great deal of mediocrity since Frank McGuire said goodbye to the ACC. I'm not sure of the recruiting base in SC, but between the Tobacco Road schools to the north, Clemson in-state, and SEC rivals Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia nearby, it's got to be a challenging road to get players to the program. Seems like a "coach killer" type job to me.

There was a time I would have been upset if Tubby bolted. If he wanted to end his coaching career in SC, I'd wish him well,

what else is new, every at this time of year some clown says tubby might get another job blah blah blah

fixed it for you.

Tubby isn't going anywhere. Who wants an expensive coach that loses? I am sure many of you would be shocked that Tubby isn't thought of as the savior by another school after his performance here.

Blah Blah Blah... You hate Tubby...WE GOT IT moron!

I think Minnesota is Tubby's last BCS job for a variety of reasons.

He said it well before Tubby was here. It may have even been when Haskins was still coaching.
